Letter to the family

Hello, my name is Adwoa Kyerewaa. I am a 22-year-old girl from Ghana. I belong to the Akan tribe in Ghana and come from the eastern part of the country, but I used to live in Accra. I am currently living in a town called Maarn in the Netherlands.I come from a big family of 6 kids, where I am the 5th child and the first female grandchild. Having always been surrounded by a big, loving family, family is very important to me.
I am hard-working, patient, caring, and a fun-loving person. I love to cook; I learnt how to cook from a very young age as I loved helping my mom in the kitchen. Over the years, I've picked up lots of cooking ideas from Food Network and also from other people in my community.
I had always been interested in culture, history, and the way of life of people. However, when I started to babysit for my junior high school teacher and then for my eldest brother, I picked up on something else I enjoyed. From then on, my passion for anything involving childcare started. I love to be around, be of help, and cater for children in whatever little way I can. I find the time spent with children to be fun, meaningful, and creative, as we get to bond a bit more and make the best memories every time.

Experience

After my discovery of the term "Aupair," I was elated because it was, after doing some research, the perfect fit for me.
I like the idea that aupairing would give me a chance to combine two of my most favourite interests: childcare assistance and history and culture exploration. So I quickly went for it with not much expectation, as I didn't know what would go down eventually. Luckily enough, I found a nice host family in the Netherlands, and I was able to join them in November 2024. The family consists of my host dad, mom, and three kids aged 12, 9, and 7 years old. It's a first-time experience for both the family and me, but it's all coming along so beautifully. The kids are nice, imaginative, and very creative too.
Aupairing gives me the chance to experience a different culture in person. The experience is profound because it is more than what I've read or even seen in a documentary, and that gives me immense joy. Nothing comes closer to the culture than a family that belongs to the culture who you get to live with, bond with, and make memories with. As an aupair, I get to assist and play with kids and also get a shot at learning and living through a new culture—two things I'm most passionate about, hence my choice of being an aupair.
