Letter to the family

Hi! My name is Mackenzie and I come from the coast of Perth, Western Australia. I am currently 17 but I am turning 18 in May this year and *will be 18 at the time of my Au Pair* abroad! A bit about me: I absolutely love to travel and was an exchange student from the end of August 2023 to the end of January 2024 (the academic semester). Exchange truly opened up my perspective about the world and taught me so many vital things about living abroad. I have travelled quite a bit over the past few years and adore learning about new cultures and having new experiences. My family includes my mum, my sister and I! Fun fact, my sister and I are only 11 months apart! I love cats and have two in my family, one being my family’s cat and one being my own. One of my hobbies includes figure Skating. I enjoy hanging out with friends and exploring new cities. I consider myself to be quite independent. I am a confident and outgoing person and I really enjoy making new friends. I have two jobs and maintain a good relationship with my both my co-workers and Managers. I love children so much and interact with them any chance I get! I was a figure Skating Coach to children age 2+ and it was such a rewarding job to see how they progressed after every lesson! The opportunity to AuPair with your family would be so exciting!

Experience

I genuinely love children and I have my whole life. Once I found out about AuPairing I knew I wanted to do it. The idea of being able to create a meaningful relationship with a child and being able to learn all about them, how they think, their hobbies, their likes and dislikes, their strengths and weaknesses and their dreams, fills me with so much joy. For an achedmic semester I took part in a Child Devopement course and during this course we learnt to develop knowledge and understanding and gain practical skills to assist with childcare and development. We began by investigating family types, childcare careers and them move through pregnancy to parenthood with a big focus on child development, nutrition and growth. Further in grade 11 for the academic year I took part in a Children,-Family-Comunity course and during this course we focused on caring for others. We developed an understanding of human growth and factors that influence human development and well-being of individuals, families and communities. We considered alternative perspectives, policies and practices and examined support services available. Many of the activities were hands-on, this includes the virtual baby program, or also known as a computerised infant simulator that gives students the opportunity to develop hands-on experience in infant care. Other experiences include a fundraising activity to raise funds for a chosen children’s charity and creating a lunchbox for a child with a nutritional condition. The course is designed to be beneficial for students who may be interested in career pathways including education, nursing, community services, childcare and health. Graduation both courses with high marks. As previously stated I also coached figure skating with young children ages 2+ every sunday. This was a large responsibity as we had to ensure the saftey of the children on the ice. This helped me put my childcare knowlage to use and created a fun environment for the children to excel in. I worked with super young children whom were to shy to speak, helping get them out of their shell and listening to their needs, as well as children whom didn’t behave accordingly but further became great children to teach. I also helped teach and taught a program to students for our christmas showcase that was an appropriate level for their age group and progress. I also worked in a toy store - this meant I was surrounded by children of all age groups daily. I helped understand children to understand what they were looking through or helped them work through their feelings when they couldn’t get what they wanted. I also helped maintain a safe enviroment in store for children to be able to roam without fear of them tripping on things that where left on the ground or super sharp edges.

I started learning how to swim at 3 months old and have have taken leassons in both pools and beaches, I took health education classes in school once a week for almost my entire school career so whether this be function of the body, the mind, phyiscal and mental heath and welbeing, sickness, the benifit of outdoor activities ect ect. I have taken cooking classes at school and a Food Science Technology class at a grade 12 level for one year - this does not mean I am a chef but it does mean I can understand how to safely provide, prepare and cook food. A large portion of this course was knowledge of the sensory, physical, chemical and functional properties of food, Principles of dietary planning, adapting recipes, and processing techniques were taught and we learned and implemented occupational safety and health requirements, safe food handling practices, and a variety of processing techniques to produce safe, quality food products. We had to correctly learn the nutritional value of food products and provide and create that were of nutritional standard. I graduated this course with an A. I also want to partake in a first aid course prior to my departure that is specifically directed towards young kids so that I am able to jump into action in the case that something happens. I want to be able to create a magical AuPair experience with the child/children and become a part of their life. I also love the opportunity to live and explore in a new country and learn the way of life there, including culture, language ect ect. I also like the idea of giving a helping hand to a family. I believe its all about balance. I would love to teach the children my culture in Australia and learn about the differences between the two. I love children and believe they are some of the purest souls on the planet. I find it rewarding to help them learn and grow and I am responsible, and enjoy playing and engaging with children, whether this is playing dress-up, imaginary games or learning something new! I would like to learn about the child's likes and dislikes and their favorite activities and hobbies. I would like to take them on walks to the local park or playground or partake in fun and engaging games! I’d like to take them out to do some activities or spend some time at home helping them learn, drawing beautiful pictures, colouring or playing with them to keep them occupied. We could try activities such as baking treats or playing sports outside and maybe going ice skating in the winter!. Just helping the kids get involved!
