Letter to the family

Hi! My name is Alice, and I’m almost 18-year-old I live in Rome with my parents and younger brother, and I finished my last year of high school. In October, I’ve decided to take some time to improve my English or learn a new language completely new to me: Spanish, by living with a host family before I start college.

Thanks to my school i have made projects with elementary schools, like helping children do homework and other things. I have done many times the babysitting of children of family friends.

On top of that, I really enjoy spending time with kids. My little cousin is seven, and taking care of her is one of my favorite things to do. I find their energy and curiosity so inspiring, and this is a big reason why I’d love to become an au pair. I think it would be an amazing experience to not only spend time with kids but also learn from them while helping them grow in a caring environment.

I truly believe that growing up with love and kindness is key to a happy childhood, and I’d do everything I could to create that for the children I care for. I’m responsible and always take my commitments seriously, but I like to keep things fun and positive too. The well-being of the kids and the peace of mind of the family would be my top priority.

I love staying active and being outdoors—ever since I was little, nature’s been my happy place. I also adore animals, especially dogs, and I’m thinking about studying veterinary medicine in the future.

I also love cooking and experimenting with new recipes. It’s something I enjoy sharing with the people I care about—food is definitely my way of showing love!

I’d say I’m a pretty upbeat and friendly person, though I can be shy when I'm in new situations. I’m always looking on the bright side, even when things get tough. I don’t like causing problems for others, so I stay calm and kind no matter what.
I'm very determined in everything I do, I'm also very altruistic and empathetic and I hate disorder

Becoming an au pair feels like the perfect chance to combine everything I love spending time with kids, immersing myself in a new culture and teach you a little about mine but especially learning English (because I'm not very good ahahah) or new languages that I will need in the future. I’m excited to grow and take on new challenges with the family that welcomes me. Thanks for taking the time to read a bit about me, and I really hope we can share this experience together!

Experience

Becoming an au pair is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time not just as a way to travel, but as a real life experience that allows me to grow, learn, and connect with people in a deep and meaningful way.
One of my main goals is to improve my language skills. I believe that the best way to learn a language is to live it to hear it every day, speak it in real conversations, and be fully immersed in a new culture. Being an au pair gives me exactly that opportunity, and I’m excited to challenge myself and become more fluent through daily life with your family.
Another big reason is my love for children. I truly enjoy spending time with kids playing, helping with homework, reading stories, listening to their thoughts, and just being present in their little world. I find so much joy in their curiosity, honesty, and energy. I know being an au pair isn’t always easy, but I’m ready to be patient, responsible, and supportive. I want to build a strong bond with your children not just take care of them, but be a positive, kind, and fun influence in their lives.
On a more personal level, I also see this experience as a way to become more independent and open-minded. Living in a new country, adapting to a new lifestyle, and building relationships from scratch is a challenge but it’s one that excites me. I want to grow not only as a student or a worker, but as a person.
Finally, I believe in the power of cultural exchange. I’m not just coming to learn from you, but to share with you too my culture, my traditions, my language, and who I am.
