Letter to the family

Hello to my future Host family!

I am Nuria and I am currently living in England. My family, friends, staff and the children I have looked after would describe me as “silly, nurturing and enthusiastic” or a phrase I hear a lot is “always with a smile on her face”. I like to travel and meet new people but I am also very passionate about working and helping children. This experience would be all of my interests and skills combined. But despite all this what matters the most is what I can offer you and your family. Picking me to be your au pair would be the best decision you could make. I am very reliable, helpful, educational and fun. I will not only look after and care for your children and make sure they are safe, and having a good time and definitely learn a thing or two as I would probably learn from them too but I will also care for them like they are my younger siblings- like family. I am very committed to being a good au pair but mainly I would like to be working for a family where I can feel close or connected to it like I’m part of it. My qualifications include babysitting work, Online English Tutoring and I am currently a teaching assistant at a secondary school working with children who have learning difficulties, autism, ADHD and wheelchair needs and also children who are falling behind in their lessons, need reading, writing or numeracy intervention. I can also transfer my language skills to the children if that is desired as I speak English, Portuguese, Spanish and a little French. I enjoy drawing, arts and crafts as well as reading books and baking. Which I would to do with the children as fun activities! Overall I know we'll have a good time all together. Can wait to meet you!

Experience

I have a lot of childcare experience and they were all really gratifying jobs for me. When you love what you do you don't work a day in your life!

I would say my first real childcare experience was looking after my little brother. I started young but I had to help out my single mother. So I would get him ready for school, make sure he ate breakfast, had his lunch and got to school on time. Then pick up, help with homework, play around together and then time for bed. I'd say he turned out pretty well as he's in University now and we're so close we plan trips together and if he's ever in trouble or stuck, I'm his emergency contact.

Once my little brother started to be more independent I started babysitting other children from his primary school. The parents took a liking to me and so did their teachers and when I mentioned babysitting, they all jumped at the chance. I picked up their kids, made sure they had something to eat, helped with homework, had playtime and if needed a nap. I would stay with them until their parents would come back from work or somewhere else. Sometimes I would take them to their extra curricular activities and wait for them to finish to continue our routine. When the weather was nicer I would take them to a park, have picnics with them, some children museums (they usually have activities for the kids to make them more engaged), ice cream, arts and crafts like bracelets making and drawing a lovely thank you card for mum and dad and many more fun projects. I wanted them to have fun with me not just keep them in a place to keep an eye on them.

I then did some online English language lessons for children. I planned all my lessons and kept a close relationship with the parents so they track progress as well as have some input on what they wanted the children to learn or let me know what they have been struggling with at school so I could help.

Currently I am working as a teaching assistant in a secondary school. I mainly work with children with Austin and ADHD from the ages 11-16 but I help all the other children too. My usual class consists of 31 students in year 7. They are the funniest, most dramatic and interesting kids I've ever met. Everyday they come to me with a new fact or TikTok I need to see. But what I love the most about them is how thoughtful and caring they all are. Sure they can be rowdy which sometimes makes my Job with the autistic children a little harder (as they don't like too much noise) but once they see that its bothering them they calm down and try to make sure the boys are okay. They are very considerate and always try to include them in class projects and conversations. I think they're the best class in the school but maybe I am being a little biased. They always come to me for help or to ask how my day is going even though I am not their regular teacher. And I keep all the drawings they have given me.

And now I hope to be working for your family. I can't wait to start! I want to know everything about you all. Favourite colours, food, shows and hobbies. What are the little ones like? Silly and playful? Sporty and brave? Are there any allergies or medical conditions? Need extra help on homework? Want them to learn a new language? I will be happy to do it all!
