Letter to the family

Dear Host Family,

I hope this letter finds you well! My name is Matilde, I am 20 years old, I am from Madeira Island and I am very excited about the possibility of becoming part of your family as an Au Pair.

Since I was young, I have always had a great love for children and, over the years, this passion has only grown. I come from a large family and since I was little I was surrounded by younger cousins, which gave me many opportunities to care for and play with them. This constant interaction made me realize how much I love being with children, teaching them new skills and, at the same time, learning from them. The fact that my mother is a Kindergarten Teacher also contributed a lot to this passion of mine, so much so that I am currently in the 2nd year of the Degree in Education Sciences.

I chose to be an Au Pair because I see this experience as the perfect opportunity to combine my passion for caring for children with my desire to immerse myself in a new culture. This is not just a job for me, but also a chance to grow personally and professionally. I want to experience the routine of a family from another culture, learn new ways of seeing the world and, at the same time, share some of my own traditions and customs. I believe that this cultural exchange will be enriching for both parties.

I would love to be part of your family because I believe that together we can create a harmonious and mutually learning environment. I am willing to help with everyday tasks, be a caring big sister to the children and contribute to the well-being of the family as a whole. I am a responsible, patient and caring person, and I am sure that these qualities will help me adapt quickly and create strong bonds with you.

In addition to my love for children, I also have practical experience. I have worked as a Camp Counselor, where I developed skills in caring for children of different ages, organizing educational activities and ensuring a safe and fun environment for them. I am also very organized and proactive, which I believe is essential to deal with the responsibilities of an Au Pair.

I look forward to getting to know you better and being part of your daily life. I hope that we can build unforgettable memories together and that this experience will be as rewarding for you as I am sure it will be for me.

I thank you for your attention and for the opportunity to introduce myself. I am available for any questions you may have and to talk more about how we can help each other on this journey.

With love,

Matilde

Experience

Originally translated from Português
Working as a camp counselor for children is an intense and rewarding experience, marked by a lot of responsibility, creativity and moments of pure joy. As a counselor, the day starts early, usually with the task of helping to organize and supervise the children from breakfast until the end of the day, ensuring that everyone is safe and having fun.

The routine involves leading recreational and educational activities, such as outdoor games, art workshops, sports activities, treasure hunts and even storytelling sessions. It is necessary to always be attentive to the children's needs, offering emotional support, resolving conflicts and promoting the integration of everyone in the group. Energy is essential, since the pace of the activities is constant and requires a lot of dynamism.

In addition to being a challenging experience, it is also incredibly rewarding. The monitor has the opportunity to positively impact the children's lives, helping them develop social skills, autonomy and self-confidence. Seeing the children's progress throughout the camp, whether in overcoming fears or developing new friendships, brings a unique sense of accomplishment.

At the end of the day, despite the tiredness, the satisfaction of having provided unforgettable moments for the children makes up for all the effort. The experience as a summer camp monitor is, without a doubt, an opportunity for personal growth, learning and, above all, for creating memories that both the children and the monitor themselves will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
