Letter to the family
Dear future host family,
My name is Nele-Liis, I’m 23 years old, and I come from a small, peaceful country in Northern Europe called Estonia. I just recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology, and before starting my master’s studies, I would love to take a break from academics and experience life abroad—stepping outside of my small hometown, Tartu, and into a new adventure!
Alongside my studies, I’ve been working as a receptionist at a local spa. I enjoy the calm atmosphere and the chance to make each guest's visit as pleasant as possible. I live with my mother and younger sister just outside the city, and we share our home with two cats—so it’s safe to say I adore animals. I’ve grown up surrounded by pets: cats, guinea pigs, degus, bunnies… you name it! Being around animals has always brought me a sense of comfort and joy.
In my free time, I love being outdoors, especially hiking in nature. I also enjoy staying active by going to the gym or playing volleyball and padel with friends. I’m fluent in English, having started learning it very early in childhood. I also successfully passed the Cambridge CAE exam in high school, achieving the C2 level.
Children hold a very special place in my heart. I’ve worked with them in various roles—first as a teenager planning activities and introducing kids to books at a summer library program, and more recently as an English teacher at a local kindergarten during my university years. I would describe myself as cheerful, optimistic, and a little witty—qualities that children seem to appreciate! We usually get along very well and have lots of fun together.
My psychology studies have given me valuable insights into child development, learning styles, and how to best support children's emotional and cognitive growth. This academic background, combined with practical experience, makes me feel confident and excited about working as an Au Pair.
I also have experience living abroad—during my second year of university, I spent a semester studying in Barcelona at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. It was an unforgettable time where I stepped far outside my comfort zone, grew as a person, and fell in love with the city’s energy, people, and culture. Ever since returning home, I’ve known that I want to live abroad again—whether it’s in Barcelona (which has a very special place in my heart) or somewhere entirely new.
To sum this all up, I’m a friendly, polite, and open-minded person. Like many Northern Europeans, I can be a little reserved at first, but I warm up quickly and enjoy connecting with people. I speak multiple languages, adapt well to new situations, and bring both experience and enthusiasm when it comes to caring for children. I’ve also completed first-aid training, which hopefully shall never be of use, but I find it a useful extra skill to have.
If you think I might be a good fit for your family, I would be happy to hear from you and answer any further questions you may have! :)
Lots of love!
Nele-Liis
