Letter to the family

Hi! My name is Erin, I’m 23 years old, and I’m from the United States. I’m currently living in Spain, where I’ve spent the past two years working as an English teacher. During this time, I’ve had the opportunity to work with children of various ages and backgrounds, and it’s confirmed how much I enjoy being part of their learning and growth.

I’m excited to become an au pair because I truly value cultural exchange and believe there’s no better way to understand a culture than by becoming part of a local family’s daily life. I love the idea of sharing my language and background while also improving my Spanish (or another language) and learning new customs and traditions from you. For me, being an au pair isn’t just about childcare — it’s about connection, trust, and creating positive memories together.

I would love to support your family this summer from late June to August and bring a warm, responsible, and energetic presence into your home. I’ve worked as a summer camp counselor for two years, volunteered in local schools with aftercare programs, and taught English in classroom settings, so I’m confident and comfortable taking care of children in a fun and structured way. I enjoy cooking, staying active, reading, going to the beach, hiking, biking, and trying new things, and I’d be happy to include your children in any of those activities!

You can count on me to be dependable, respectful, and genuinely interested in becoming a temporary big sister and role model. I understand that welcoming someone into your home is a big decision, and I would be honored to be part of your family for a short but meaningful time.

Thank you for considering my application, I hope to hear from you soon!

Warm regards,
Erin

Experience

I have not yet been an Au Pair, but I have had valuable experiences working with children that make me confident I will thrive in this role. For the past two years, I’ve been teaching English in Spain, where I’ve had the chance to work closely with children of various ages. I have also worked as a summer camp counselor for two years, leading activities and supporting kids in a fun, safe environment. Additionally, I volunteered in local schools, helping with after-school programs and homework. These experiences have allowed me to develop strong childcare skills, patience, and a deep understanding of how to foster positive relationships with children while providing them with support and encouragement.

Becoming an Au Pair abroad excites me because it gives me the unique opportunity to combine my love for working with children with my passion for learning about new cultures. I have always enjoyed exploring different ways of life, and what better way to do that than by becoming a part of a host family’s daily routine? Living abroad offers a chance to not only improve my language skills (especially in Spanish or any other language), but also to learn from the traditions, values, and lifestyles of people from different backgrounds. I love the idea of forming a close relationship with a host family, supporting them with childcare, and contributing to their home in a positive way. It also allows me to connect deeply with a culture, improve my personal development, and gain a truly enriching experience. I’m looking forward to the chance to immerse myself fully, share my own background and language, and, of course, learn new things every day.
