Letter to the family

Hello families, I am Layla! I am 20 years old and I am the oldest of three. I have been a caregiver since I could remember and have always created a nurturing atmosphere for those around me. I am a great help around the house and enjoy being able to support learning and conversation. I took courses in high school (peer tutoring in kindergarten classes) to build up skills such as: patients, problem-solving, dealing with highly emotional situations and to always have a fun game in your back pocket!
I enjoy the outdoors, my number one way to get out of my head. Hiking and camping is a huge passion of mine. Another career path I tried out was cooking, absolutely love it but definitely prefer it as a hobby I can share with the people around me. I am always eager to learn new foods and new ways to prepare them. I am also a creative person, I enjoy photography, painting, drawing, crocheting and a good book!

I want to become an au pair or a home share with an elder because I want to see the world! I want to meet people with all different kinds of stories from all of the places I dream to see. The love stories, the struggles and the best parts of life. I am interested in learning new languages and culture. I want to be able to show my appreciation to my host family for giving me a chance to see their beautiful country by being able to support, to give a helping hand and bring a loving atmosphere into their homes.
I have a passion to teach kids how to believe in themselves, trust their bodies, how to show and communicate their feelings and thoughts and support them in anyway I can. I want to learn from the parents I work with. They’re cultures and teachings that they have learned along the way. I would love to be apart of your team.

I think I would be be a good fit for your home because I am a clean and respectful individual. I am easy going and shy at first but will talk your ear off once I get to know you. I know this is a big change to take in a whole new person into your home and I understand communication is key and being able to create space for any questions or to set boundaries. I am a very present person, I love to be in the moment. So I can be able to listen and learn all that there is to learn. I want to be able to give all my love and energy into new relationships that I can have for years to come. I have a big appreciation for families that host, it’s absolutely amazing and look forward to giving a loving helping hand around your home!

I qualify for this position because, I have had a lot of amazing opportunities to develop great skills in all sorts of fields, my top few is: cooking, childcare, cleaning, landscaping and farming in general. I worked as a line cook which helped me to graduate high school then after, continued my pre-tutoring interests by being a part of the indigenous education from where I’m from. I then took a break from the education field to help my mothers cleaning business, harvest produce and general farming in my neighbourhood. After that I became a Nanny and have continued to be for the past four years.I also have done my doula training (doula is a pregnancy, birth and postpartum coach/caregiver) while I was nannying. My specialty is newborns infants and toddlers but have been surrounded and worked with all ages.

Experience

I have not been an au pair or done a home share yet. But since I have been nannying for four years now and have built a good foundation for childcare and worked with many people in many different fields. I thought it would be a great way for me to travel, make some pocket change and create meaningful relationships around the world.
