Welcome Letter to the Au Pair
Originally translated from Deutsch
Hello,
I am looking for an au pair to help with our 5 children. We live in beautiful Bamberg (approx. 80,000 inhabitants).
As the children are in school or kindergarten for a relatively long time, there is definitely enough time for language courses and free time. You also never have to look after all the children at the same time! My parents or I will almost always be at home. In our house you have your own large room and a bathroom that is only used by you, so there is plenty of space to retreat and have some peace and quiet. We also have a beautiful garden. Our house is about 4 minutes' walk from the bus stop into town. By bike (we can get one), you can also cycle into town on the bike path along the river (in about 10-15 minutes). Our children are very open to interaction.
We look forward to hearing from you!
I don't eat meat, the children do (but not much).
You will almost never be alone with all 5 children. Mother and/or I will always look after children too.
I live alone in the house with the children. Mother lives elsewhere. Please ask yourself beforehand if that is OK with you!!
I don't have a new partner and I'm not looking for one because I have enough to do with work and children.
I'm a pretty dedicated host and I help the au pairs with all their affairs. So you would have a lot of support in me. I don't take advantage of anyone!
The following is particularly important to me when it comes to au pairs:
• You should be prepared to plan your free time a little. Because of childcare and parallel work, there isn't much spontaneity possible. I don't want meticulous planning, but I want to know roughly in advance what you are planning and when, and when I will have to do without you. But there is actually a lot of free time, you just have to discuss it beforehand. That's why I want a structured person as an au pair!
• I want a person with stable health and no mental problems or anything like that. Because of my ex-wife, I already have to deal with enough people with unstable mental health and so I want to have a stable person in the house.
• Please think about whether you really want to go that long way abroad or whether you will suffer from homesickness for a long time. I am sure that we are a pretty nice family, but it can still be difficult for some people to be so far away.
Bamberg is a very beautiful city with a beautiful old town. Lots of tourists come to visit the city. There are several rivers that flow through the city and contribute to the beautiful atmosphere.
The city is known for medieval buildings, a cathedral and beautiful parks.
Bamberg itself also has a university and there are many students, including international ones.
The region around Bamberg (Franconian Switzerland) is known for hikes through hilly landscapes with fruit trees, small villages and many breweries.
The next really big city is Nuremberg (approx. 500,000 inhabitants), which can be easily reached by train (approx. 35-45 minutes). On the way there is Erlangen (approx. 110,000 inhabitants), a very international city with clinics, a university and the Siemens company.
Erlangen has a large university with a diverse student life.
Many greetings from Bamberg,
Johannes
