Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

We are Friederike & Michael with our little daughters Johanne (born 03/2022) and Emma (born 01/2024). We live in the beautiful northwest of Germany in a small town called Garrel (approx. 15,000 inhabitants). The surroundings are very rural, but there are many shopping and leisure opportunities in the town. By public transport or car, you can reach the nearest larger cities, Cloppenburg (40,000 inhabitants) or Oldenburg (180,000), in about 20 minutes. Bremen, the next really big city by German standards (580,000), is about 45 minutes away, and Hamburg can be reached in just over two hours, making it suitable for a weekend trip.

Job Description

As an au pair, you will help us take care of our children. You might soon be able to take them to daycare or kindergarten yourself. A driver's license would be desirable in bad weather, but it's not a must. It is important that you can ride a bike and swim because our little ones are real water rats and often want to go swimming. It would be great if you already speak a little German. Otherwise, we can learn it together, and you can also attend language courses here in town, which we would expect you to do on your own initiative. As a fallback in emergencies, good knowledge of English would be helpful. Unfortunately, we don't speak Spanish, French, or other languages, but we would love to learn them from you.

We play together, eat together, and maybe you can help with simple household tasks (preparing meals, doing laundry, tidying up, etc.). You will, of course, have plenty of time to get to know us, the surroundings, and the country, and you will quickly make new friends.

Accommodation

We have a very large house with many rooms. You will sleep in our spacious, bright guest room on a separate floor. You will also have your own bathroom and even a small kitchen there. Of course, you will generally live with us, but you will have your own retreat and privacy. Our house is equipped with modern entertainment electronics and excellent Wi-Fi throughout. You will love our wonderful house and our large garden.
