Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello!

We have had aupairs since October 2017, so we are used to having someone new in the house and we also know what is involved with the visa process!

We are a German/New Zealand family of four (Mum: Elan, Dad: Axel). Amelia, was born end of September, 2016 and Carla was born in December 2019. Our aim is for them to grow up tri-lingual: German, English and Cantonese, so we are looking for someone who speaks *Cantonese or English* to help us out! We love to travel, cook and grow our own veggies (chilis!!); meet up with friends and hike.

We live in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, a beautiful little town in the southwest of Germany, with the forest at our backyard. There is a bus stop only 50 metres away, which will take you to the city and the main train station. From there, it is an easy train ride to other interesting cities (Mannheim, Heidelberg, Frankfurt, even France is close!) for sightseeing, cinema and shopping opportunities. We can also provide you with a bicycle to get around. You will have your own bedroom and bathroom.

The earliest start time would be October 2023 (Amelia will be 7 years old and Carla will be almost 4 years old). You should be able to stay a minimum of 6 months up to a maximum of 1 year. Amelia goes to school and will be home between midday and 13:00. Carla will be at kindergarten the whole day. The aupair would be there for Amelia when she gets home from school and also Carla when she comes home at 16:00.

Amelia is a very active, happy little girl. She speaks three languages and loves to make up stories and play make-believe. She does a lot of arts and crafts and attends music courses. You will help during her new discoveries and enjoy introducing her to new things.

Carla loves to dance, look at books and try everything that her big sister does!

Axel is a researcher who works at the Uni Heidelberg at the Biochemistry Centre. I work as a teacher at an international school.

Please note that we are looking for AuPairs who speak CANTONESE mainly, but English is also good!

Job Description

In September 2023, Amelia will be 7 years old and attending school during the day (Monday-Friday from 08:00 - midday).

Carla will be attending kindergarten the entire day and I will pick her up on the way home from work at 16:30.

Your main responsibility will be to meet Amelia when she gets home from school then give her lunch and be with her until I get home. There may be activities that she will do, as well as homework. When Carla is home, you will be also looking after her.

We would love for you to take both girls out for walks, play in the garden and of course, engage in Cantonese (or English) and be a big sister to them. We encourage our girls to take the initiative and be independent, so when both girls are at home, you would just be present to help them over any hurdles. Otherwise, they should be encouraged to play together and by themselves with just supervision from you.

You will mostly have the weekends free, as well as the weeknights (occasionally, with prior arrangement, we may need you to help out by babysitting on evenings). As well, you will have most of my school holidays free.

You will be responsible for keeping your own living quarters clean. Some light cleaning of the common areas will be required. You will help with preparing breakfast. Cooking is not required, but if you have some recipes you are willing to share and cook, that would be great!

You will have plenty of free time, but we’d like to welcome you into the family. Elan is a school teacher, so you will have time off during the school holidays (Christmas, Easter, summer) to explore Europe by yourself or come on holiday with us!
