Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Welcome to Vantaa, a city with perfect combination of versatile activities, beautiful nature and excellent connections within a 45 minute bus ride from the Helsinki city centre! We are a family of four looking for our 2nd au pair joining our family as our gest and family member. We would love to find an au pair who is responsible and diligent and likes to play with children but could also take care of the children´s needs and keep the house in order at the same time. Our children go to kindergarten/school during the day, so we would love to have au pair´s help in the mornings about at 7.00-8.00 and in the afternoons at 12.00-16.00. We would need your help with the children and light housework at most five hours a day and 25 hours a week. Weekends are mostly off. We hope you could start in mid-August 2024 and the length of the stay would be 12 months.

Job Description

We would need au pair´s help in the mornings about at 7.00-8.00 and in the afternoons at 12.00-16.00. Every now and then the schedule changes and we may, for example, need babysitting in the evening. Sometimes we may need it more than once a week, sometimes less often. When the kids are on vacations, the schedules vary more. During the holidays, an au pair´s duties can be more housework than childcare. However, your working hours are never more than 5 hours a day and 25 hours a week and no working at nighttime. Timetable is mostly planned for one or two weeks ahead so you will know your schedule and your free time in advance.

We are looking for a female au pair who:
- is fluent in English
- minimum age 20
- is responsible, honest, positive and diligent
- doesn´t smoke
- has childcare experience
- is ready to help us 25 hours a week with children and light housework, like keep the house in order (put toys etc. to their own place), load and empty the dishwasher, look after robot vacuums to be sure they do their job, do some light cleaning, prepare meals for children, feed the dog and take her to walk etc.,
- is ready not to use phone while taking care of the children (children deserve all your attention, at your free time you are free to use your phone as much as you like)
- is ready to clean her own things (also when it is au pair´s free time), prepare her meals when she is hungry if we are not having a meal together and so on - in other words take care of herself as a family member ?
- and, if she comes outside of the EU, meets the requirements for the residence permit: she
1. is max. 30 years of age, and has not worked as an au pair in Finland or in any other country before (if she has, she won´t get residence permit),
2. has a health certificate, less than 3 months old, showing that she does not have any infectious disease which would prevent her au pair placement in a host family,
3. is ready to do a Finnish language course (this is easy to do, it is possible to do the course online and it takes only few hours and costs about 12 EUR),
4. is ready to buy a private health and accident insurance covering medical and pharmaceutical expenses throughout the au pair´s stay in Finland (from ex. Swisscare 219 EUR / year). We shall pay the au pair 20 EUR / monthly extra pocket money to cover the insurance costs to the au pair,
5. is able to pay for her residence permit application fee (380 EUR) and the other costs the aforementioned documents, and
6. after submitting the residence permit application online an au pair should be ready to travel to embassy to identify herself.

Accommodation

In addition to your own, cozy room with Wifi, good quality Finnish food, language course, 4 weeks of paid vacation per year and workers' compensation insurance, we offer a 300 EUR monthly pocket money and, when you have stayed with us for the whole year, we offer you an extra bonus of 300 EUR at the end of your au pair year. These amounts are net amounts, so you will have the whole amount to yourself and you don't have to pay any taxes to Finland (unlike in other Nordic countries, in Finland we will pay the taxes on behalf of you).

However, we expect you to pay your travel costs to Finland and back, other costs not stated to be provided by the host family, like mobile subscription, public transport tickets during her free time, other personal items etc. and, if you come outside of the EU, the costs of obtaining a residence permit.

If you become interested and if you meet the above criteria, please write us a private message. We warmly welcome you as our guest and our family member! We will do our best to make your feel welcome and get to know our culture during your stay in Finland. Our previous au pair settled down in Finland after her au pair year and, if that is your wish, we will do our best to help you to achieve that goal too.

Looking forward getting to know you!
