Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

** Update 17.3.2025: Thank you for your interest! We have already found our 3rd au pair ❤️ If you become interested, we are going to start searching our 4th au pair in the beginning of the year 2026 (starting 8/2026) ☀️

Welcome to experience an au pair year in Finland, the happiest country in the world! ☀️

We are a family of four from the safe country of four seasons in Northern Europe. Our current, golden au pair´s au pair year is going to an end in August 2025 and therefore we are searching for our third au pair to join our family as our guest and family member. ️❤️

We would love to have an au pair´s help with our children and light housework 25 hours a week. An au pair´s duties are mostly related to the care and maintenance of our younger child (2y) and light housework, while our firstborn (10y) is already quite independent. We are searching for an au pair who is responsible and diligent, likes to play with children indoors & outdoors, and can take care of the children´s needs and keep the house in order at the same time. We hope our next au pair could start in the beginning of August 2025.

Our home city Vantaa is a perfect combination of versatile activities, beautiful nature and excellent connections within a 45-minute bus ride from the Helsinki city centre. Here in Finland tree leaves turn red and yellow in autumn. If you are lucky, you may see aurora borealis in the sky. In November you can experience first snow and in winter the whole nature is covered under a blanket of snow ❄️ You have a possibility to experience Finnish Christmas and also try skiing, ice skating on a lake, ice swimming and make snow angels and snow men ☃️ In spring plants are growing and tulips are blooming again. Finnish summer is beautiful and bright: during midsummer the sun doesn’t set at all! ☀️ In summer you can grill food outside, explore nature, bike, swim and chill outdoors with friends.

According to the international World Happiness Report, Finland was the happiest country in the world in 2024 – for the seventh year in a row. ⭐️ We warmly welcome you to Finland!

Job Description

In Finland au pairing hours may be 25 hours per week at maximum. Our au pair´s responsibilities & duties during the stay can be for example:

⭐️ playing indoors, playing outdoors, singing, reading, drawing, painting with the children
⭐️ dropping off and picking up the children from kindergarten/other activities
⭐️ preparing easy meals
⭐ helping to tidy up the kitchen after dinner
⭐️ helping the children with personal hygiene (tooth brushing, changing diapers etc.)
⭐️ putting the children to sleep
⭐️ keeping the children's room tidy
⭐️ keeping the house in order (put toys etc. to their own place)
⭐️ doing laundry
⭐️ making sure robot vacuums are doing their job
⭐️ loading and unloading the dishwasher
⭐️ light cleaning like sweeping and dusting
⭐️ light shopping
⭐️ visiting library
⭐️ feeding the dog and taking her to walk.

Our au pair´s status is comparable to that of a family member, and she participates in the everyday activities of our family.️ Hence au pairing hours can be during morning, afternoon and/or evening, both weekdays and weekends. The schedule varies weekly and someday our au pair may have for example 6 hours au pairing tasks and another only 2 hours. However, there are no au pairing hours at nighttime (between 23.00-6.00) and never more than 25 hours a week. An au pair´s au pairing time may also start at kindergarten or end to kindergarten, if she drops off or picks up the child. Our au pair has always at least one full free day every week, and two successive free days at least every second week. The schedule is mostly planned the week before.

We hope you could start 1-2 weeks before our current au pair's contract will end (16.8.2025) so that she can familiarize you with your duties and the beginning of your adventure would be as smooth as possible ❤️

We offer

☘️ a cozy room with wifi
☘️ good quality Finnish food (we usually have dinner together afternoons which you are always warmly welcome to join ❤️)
☘️ 340 EUR monthly pocket money
☘️ 4 weeks of paid vacation per year
☘️ Finnish language course
☘️ workers' compensation insurance

All the amounts mentioned above are net amounts, so you will have the whole amount to yourself, and you don't have to pay any taxes to Finland (unlike some another European country, we pay the taxes in behalf on you).

We are looking for an au pair who

❤️ is fluent in English
❤️ is willing to carry out the au pair's responsibilities and duties mentioned above
❤️ is responsible, honest, positive, diligent
❤️ is also flexible when there are unexpected changes in childcare needs
❤️ knows how to take care of a toddler who defy her nanny/parents and test the limits (defiance)
❤️ is ready to clean her own things (also when it is au pair´s free time), prepare her meals when she is hungry if we are not having a meal together and so on - in other words take care of herself as a family member
❤️ is ready not to use phone while taking care of the children – the children deserve all our attention. At your free time you are free to use your electronic devices as you wish.
❤️ doesn´t smoke
❤️ is able and willing to take and pick up our younger child to kindergarten by foot with good quality stroller. The distance will probably be 1,3 km one way, but there is a small possibility that the distance may be part of the year 2,8 km.
❤️ in Finland the weather varies, and the children are spending time every day outside, so it´s important that our au pair is also ready to spend time outside when it´s cold, windy, raining or snowing.

Driving license is not required.

In addition, if an au pair comes outside of the Europe, she must meet the requirements for the residence permit:

1️⃣ max. 30 years of age and has not worked as an au pair in Finland or in any other country before (if she has, she won´t get residence permit!),
2️⃣ has a health certificate, less than 3 months old, showing that she does not have any infectious disease,
3️⃣ is ready to do a Finnish language course (this is easy to do, it is possible to do the course online and it takes only a day or two),
4️⃣ is ready to get a private health and accident insurance covering medical and pharmaceutical expenses throughout the stay in Finland (easy to take from ex. Swisscare)
5️⃣ is able to pay for her residence permit application fee (380 EUR), and
6️⃣ after submitting the residence permit application online, an au pair is ready to travel to an embassy to identify herself (in Philippines it is in VFS Global in Makati).

What costs are associated with becoming an au pair?

✈️ Flight tickets to Finland (and back, if you won´t stay in Europe).
✈️ The other costs not stated to be provided by the host family, like for example mobile subscription, public transport ticket, other personal items etc.

In addition, if you come outside of the EU, you must also pay the costs of your residence permit:
✈️ health certificate (ex. Family Care Clinic about ₱5000)
✈️ VFS Global (Visa application centre) service fee about ₱5000
✈️ health and accident insurance, ex. Swisscare insurance “Comfort” 219 EUR / year
✈️ your residence permit application fee 380 EUR.

Our current au pair from Philippines is happy to provide more information about the position, residence permit process and life in Finland, and is willing to help all the ways she can ❤️ Our first au pair settled down in Finland after her au pair year and our current au pair is also planning to stay here. If life in Finland / Europe is your wish as well, we will do our best to help you to achieve that goal too. ⭐️

If you become interested and if you meet the criteria mentioned, please write us a private message. We warmly welcome you as our guest and our family member! ❤️ We will do our best to make your feel welcome and get to know our culture during your stay in Finland.

Looking forward getting to know you! ❤️
