The Au Pair program in New Zealand works with a
Working Holiday visa. For this reason, there is no official contract. However, we strongly recommend signing one. Au Pairs and Host Families can download and personalize the
Au Pair contract from our website. Do not forget to include some important details such as:
Termination of the contract
If Au Pair and Host Family find it difficult to stay together, whether it be due to cultural differences or not delivered expectations, they can choose to terminate the contract.
When both parties decide to terminate the contract, they agree to keep working together for two more weeks while looking for another Au Pair or Host Family. This is also known as the notice period.
Au Pairs in New Zealand must have private medical insurance. It must cover the whole stay abroad and will help to ensure a safe stay. Keep in mind that the Host Family is not obligated to pay for it. For this reason, the participant will have to consider adding this to their budget.
We recommend choosing an insurance that covers both accidents and medical emergencies. Authorities might ask for it during your arrival in New Zealand.
We are working together with two insurance companies,
Dr. Walter and
Care Concept. They offer special Au Pair insurances for participants from all around the world.
Car insurance and driving license
New Zealand establishes the following driving requirements for candidates:
-
valid overseas driver’s license
-
no suspensions or disqualifications
-
not been in New Zealand for more than 12 months
-
license in English
-
no New Zealandian driver’s license
If the participants do not meet these requirements, they will have to apply for a driver’s license in New Zealand. For more information please check the
New Zealand Transport Agency website.
