Dear Future Family,


Hello! My name is Sofía Méndez, and I would love to become an Au Pair and have the joy of sharing with you and your children.


First, I would like to tell you a bit about myself. I am 21 years old and I live in Bogotá because I am currently doing my bachelor's degree in International Relations there, but I am from a small town in the Coffee region of Colombia called Pereira. My family is a very big family, but I am closer to my mom, my dad, my younger brother, my grandparents, my two cats (Venus and Mona), and a little dog named Lupita. My mom, Lorena, works as a marketing counselor for enterprises and my dad, John, spends most of his time volunteering for the Red Cross and working as a lawyer. My younger brother, Alejandro, is 17 years old and is now finishing his high school studies.


We are a very united family that loves to spend quality time together. We love to play sports like tennis, riding bicycles, going to the gym, and doing anything that keeps us active. We also love watching movies together, dancing, watching music videos, and trying new recipes.


As for myself, I love sports and I spent some years learning tennis and swimming. However, now I am dedicated to dancing. I also love doing manual arts that involve painting or clay and reading. I am a very active person with varied interests willing to try new things, learn, and have new experiences :)


I want to become an Au pair because I enjoy sharing with children and I always learn a lot when I am with them. Also, I want to save some money for my studies. I am looking for a family in Europe because I want to continue my studies in Sweden and I would love to be with a family that can help me integrate into the European lifestyle and that allows me to learn the Swedish language. As for my childcare experience, I gained it mainly through babysitting my younger brother all of his life and my 4-year-old nephew, Sara. I have also volunteered in a school in Colombia to teach English to children from 5 to 8 years old and I have worked in a Dance Academy teaching children from 4 to 5 years old to connect with their motor skills and dance.


I believe I have a lot of qualities that will make me a good Au Pair for you and will facilitate us all having a good Au Pair experience. On the one hand, I am a person with varied abilities that can help your children have a great time with me, whether it is doing physical activities or artistic ones. On the other hand, I am responsible, reliable, affectionate, patient, and honest. I am open-minded, willing to learn, and open to receiving feedback so I can do better. Through the childcare experiences I had before, I developed skills to communicate effectively with children, kindness, creativity, the ability to keep calm under pressure, and an understanding of children's emotions and needs.
