Letter to the family
Dear host family,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am one of the many candidates that you have to choose for being your au pair.
I enjoy cycling and going for walks with my little siblings. But in my everyday life, I prefer reading books, listening to music, and hanging out with my friends.
Regarding my education, I earned my high school degree in 2021. And I recently earned my bachelor's degree, and now I am learning English and follow au pair coaching at my local agency to be well prepared for this au pair journey.
Talking about my experiences, I have a thirteen-year-old sister who was born when I was only six years old, so we could say I practically grew up with her. While I didn’t have many caregiving responsibilities with her. My experience with my younger brother, who was born when I was sixteen, allowed me to develop my skills further. By then, I was more mature and took on tasks like feeding him, changing his diapers, and dressing him from time to time. In addition to my younger siblings, I often look after my aunt’s three children, who are currently seventeen, ten, and five years old. My aunt entrusts them to me during vacations at my parents’ house or when she needs to attend an event. My responsibilities include cooking for them, playing with the two younger ones, bathing them, and usually having conversations with the oldest. I also have a three-year-old nephew who I don’t get to see very often, but I take care of him whenever my sister is sick or has to work during holiday periods. During these times, I enjoy playing with him and ensuring he’s entertained and happy. Furthermore, I was an intern at a daycare with children aged from three months to three years, where I earned hands-on experience bathing infants, changing diapers, and assisting with their daily routines. Not only have these experiences deepened my love for children, but they also have equipped me with my skills and confidence to care for children in various settings. They have influenced my choice of becoming an au pair. Also, I have always been someone who lends a hand, and I hope to be able to help to the best of my ability.
After my au pair stay, I hope to advance my career in the field of software engineering. Therefore, I sincerely believe that the au pair program could help me in my future life because, for me, being an au pair is not just about traveling and doing household chores. Rather, it is an opportunity to open myself up to different cultures, learn new languages, and discover the various facets of feminine responsibility on both personal and professional level.
I specifically chose Belgium as my host country for the following reasons. Your country is one of the most recognized for its safety, and it suits me perfectly because I want to live in an environment where I can feel secure. Additionally, you Belgians are known for being welcoming and kind, so it will be easier for us to integrate into your society.
I believe I am an ideal candidate for this exchange program because I am a responsible, mature, and conscientious person. I admit that I sometimes struggle to adapt first, but I am someone who becomes familiar and comfortable over time. Based on my experiences, I am an active person in all circumstances and I can handle children from birth. As a competent young woman, I am fully capable of meeting your specific needs, whatever they may be.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I am very excited about the possibility of joining your family and helping with your children. I promise to do my best to support you and create a happy environment for your family. I look forward to learn from you and sharing my culture as well. I hope to hear from you soon!
Sincerely,
