Letter to the family

Dear Host Family

My name is Plamedi, I am a 25 year-old Congolese woman based in South Africa, Cape Town. I came from a family of 8 including my mother and father, I am the 4th child out of 6 children. After I matriculated year 2019, I became a Red Cross volunteer at the South African Red Cross Society, whereby I worked in health & care department and community engagement. Placed in environments where I worked with a many children from different backgrounds, age ethnicity and cultures.

I thoroughly enjoy working with children. Their way of thinking, free spirited minds and hearts. Especially their warm acceptance of people without judgement got me into caregiving/child care.
To mention that I have been a babysitter for over 3 years. Therefore this line of work just fits with my personality and interests.

Immediately when the au pair website was referred to me by a friend I took the opportunity. With this I will learn more about different cultures, history and encourage personal growth as individual with this experience and also get to see other parts of the world.

Experience

Apart from just my responsibility towards the child, I become like a mother able to notice the child’s state on emotion even in time of sickness. I become emotionally and mentally aware of their needs. It such a great feelings.

I am excited to learn about different customs and traditions that is embedded abroad. Also getting a little out of my comfort zone which will ultimately help me grow as individual. Also looking forward to meeting my new friends Sophia and Olivia. As well as it comforting knowing that I will be staying with a family for safety assurance in an unfamiliar environment.
