Letter to the family
Hello!
My name is Brooke, but all of my friends and family call me Bea (pronounced like the bug). I’m a 24-year-old female with a bachelor’s degree in Art Education and a minor in Social Work. I have a deep love for art—especially 3D art forms like ceramics, metalwork (jewelry making), and sculpture. I would absolutely love to be with a family or host who enjoys art as well! A few other passions of mine are exploring nature, animal care, farming, wandering in cities, going to museums and libraries, and watching movies.
During my time at university, I worked in several caregiving roles. Each summer, I worked at different camps, including those for adults with disabilities and children who have experienced trauma. For nearly two years, I worked in a group home for adults with mental disabilities while attending school full-time. After that, I joined a behavioral treatment facility for children in foster care, where I worked until graduation.
My student teaching semester took place at a Montessori alternative school, where I served as the art teacher for students aged 3 to 18. After earning my degree, I relocated to a new city and served 1,700 hours as an AmeriCorps volunteer, supporting inner-city students with mental health needs and tutoring.
Currently, I’m preparing to apply to graduate schools to pursue a master’s degree in Social Work with a focus on child welfare. I’ve chosen to take a gap year to travel, connect with others, and immerse myself in new cultures.
It would be an honor to join a host who is compassionate and open to building a meaningful connection. I especially enjoy working with children aged 10 and up. Preteens and teenagers go through such a pivotal time in life, and I would love to be a supportive presence for them. I’m also very open to supporting an elderly host—I’d be happy to help with errands, cleaning, or simply spending quality time together sharing stories or playing card games.
Ultimately, I’m looking for a mutually beneficial relationship where I can offer support, companionship, and care while learning and growing in a new environment.
