Letter to the family
Hi, dear host family!
My name is Jhully, I’m 19 years old, and I’m from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. My surname means “flower” in English, and because of that, I’ve had all kinds of fun nicknames over the years. I live with my parents and my little sister in a peaceful gated community surrounded by other families. My dad is a government police officer and is close to retirement, and my mom has always been at home taking care of me and my sister. I was raised in an environment full of care, structure, and strong values — and that has shaped a big part of who I am today.
I currently work as a young administrative apprentice at a ceramics and porcelain distribution center. It’s a part-time job — just four hours a day, four times a week. At the same time, I’m studying Real Estate Business in college and preparing for public service exams. My long-term goal is to pursue a second degree in Psychopedagogy because I want to keep working with people — especially in education and human development.
I’ve loved children for as long as I can remember, and I’ve always dreamed of becoming a mother one day — not just to babies, but also to kids, teenagers, and eventually adults.
Now you might be wondering: how does being an Au Pair fit into all this?
Well, I’ve always dreamed of living abroad. For a long time, I wanted to do a high school exchange program, but at the time, it wasn’t financially possible for my family. Still, the dream stayed alive — and grew even stronger when I discovered how much I love working with children.
I lead a book club for children and teenagers aged 10 to 19, including participants with physical and mental disabilities. We share stories, opinions, and feelings through literature, and it’s one of the most meaningful things I do. In addition to that, every Sunday, I volunteer at my local Protestant church, where the children have a dedicated space — their own little church. It’s much more than just looking after them while their parents are in service. It’s a place where we teach, listen, play, and connect in ways that respect their individuality and imagination.
That experience helped me realize how passionate I truly am about being surrounded by children of all ages and personalities and that’s why I’m here today!
I’m a calm and thoughtful person. I love to read (I’m always carrying a book with me), I enjoy all kinds of music, and I’m passionate about traveling and getting to know new people and cultures. I’m also really curious about languages — I’ve been teaching myself Spanish over the past few months. In my free time, I enjoy watching series like Brooklyn 99 and Grey’s Anatomy, spending time in nature, going to the beach — my favorite place in the world — and being with the people I love.
Becoming an Au Pair means so much to me. It’s a way to expand my world while doing something I care deeply about. I’m not looking for just a trip abroad, but for an experience where I can be part of a family, care for your children with love and responsibility, and create a real bond based on trust and support.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me. I hope we can connect and learn more about each other soon.
Warm hugs,
Jhully
