Letter to the family

Dear Host Family,

My name is Karina, I’m a 21-year-old from Russia, and I’m very excited about the opportunity to become your au pair.

Growing up with two younger sisters, I’ve always naturally taken on the role of a caregiver. Over the years, I’ve extended that passion into babysitting and tutoring children in both English and Russian, which has brought me so much joy and a lot of valuable experience. I genuinely enjoy being around children—playing with them, helping with homework, or just being someone they can count on.

One of the main reasons I’m choosing the au pair path is my love for cultural exchange. I’ve always been fascinated by foreign cultures, and I initially planned to pursue university studies in Belgium. Although I wasn’t admitted this year, I’m motivated to spend time in the country, improve my language skills, and better prepare for reapplying next year. Becoming an au pair gives me the chance to immerse myself in daily life, improve my English, and maybe even pick up some Dutch or French along the way.

In my daily life, I’m quite active and creative. I enjoy cooking (especially healthy and home-style meals), and I’ve completed several first-aid trainings. I love doing crafts, which is always fun to share with children, and I stay active through cycling, volleyball, jogging, and yoga. I also have a deep love for reading and languages—aside from Russian and Tatar, I speak English fluently and know some Spanish as well.

I’m looking forward to becoming part of a loving family, helping with daily routines, and creating a positive and caring environment for your children. I believe that being an au pair is not just about providing help, but also about building meaningful connections and sharing cultures.

Thank you very much for considering my profile. I hope to hear from you soon!

Experience

Although I have not officially worked as an au pair before, I have extensive experience that closely aligns with the role. I grew up with two younger sisters, and from a young age, I helped care for them—supporting with schoolwork, daily routines, and playtime. In addition to this, I have been babysitting for other families and tutoring children in both English and Russian for several years. These experiences have helped me develop patience, responsibility, and a natural understanding of how to connect with children of different ages.

I would like to become an au pair and live-in tutor abroad because it perfectly combines two things I am passionate about: working with children and exploring new cultures. I initially planned to attend university in Belgium, but after not being accepted this year, I saw this as a meaningful alternative that would allow me to spend time abroad, improve my language skills, and prepare for reapplying. Living with a host family will give me a deep and authentic cultural experience, while also allowing me to share my own language and traditions in return. I see this as a unique opportunity for personal growth, learning, and connection.
