Letter to the family

Hello there,

My name is Emily Rose. I'm a writer from the Great Plains of the United States. I studied Cultural Anthropology in school, spent last summer writing on environmental issues in Montana, and am currently teaching English on a Fulbright grant in Kosovo.

In my hometown of Norman, Oklahoma, I co-owned a cooperative coffee shop and bakery for a decade. At this shop, I ran a book club and other community events. I also taught ballet to Elementary-aged children for 5 years.

While I have never been an AuPair before, I babysat plenty in my teen years and love being around kids. I imagine inviting a stranger into your home is quite vulnerable, but I strive to be a calm, curious, kind, and conscientious person.

Experience

Traveling and living other places has been incredibly formative for me. I find it puts me in a headspace -- a sort of beginner's mind -- that is quite productive and expansive. However, while I love to travel, I am, at heart, a very community-oriented person; becoming an AuPair seems like a fantastic way to combine these two, sometimes-at-odds values. Above and beyond all that, I love creating and talking with kids -- they have the most amazing minds!
