Letter to the family

My name is Bea , 24 years old from the Philippines. I was an exchange student in Taiwan, then I got offered a scholarship for an MBA program. I've always loved adventure, partly because of the destinations my feet take me, but mostly because of the people that I get to meet along the way. My life abroad was a transformative time of my life. Living in another country gave me the chance to learn about a new culture, meet new friends, find new places to explore, and know myself better. Most importantly though, I learned how to live in the moment and appreciate the small things in life.

For the first time, I lived my life independently from my family. I had to learn to do things to survive. I learned how to budget, how to cook, and all the other mundane necessities that I had to learn on a day-to-day basis. I learned how to practice patience and understanding when difficult people and situations came my way.

I am the type of person that is always ready to learn from colleagues' and superior. I consider constructive criticism as a helpful way of giving feedback that provides specific, actionable suggestions and make positive improvements. My commitment to learn in this manner extends to how I assess my own career development. I am a strong believer in the value of self-reflection as a means of discovering one's own weaknesses; as a consequence, I am constantly seeking for ways to grow as a person.

As an Au Pair & Live-in Tutor, I am committed to creating a nurturing and supportive environment for your family. My dedication to fostering open communication, cultural exchange, and lifelong learning aligns perfectly with the values that I believe are essential for a harmonious host-guest relationship.

In summary, I am genuinely excited about the prospect of becoming a part of your family and contributing positively to the lives of your loved ones. With a heart full of wanderlust and a spirit eager to connect, I am ready to embark on this adventure together.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to meet you and discuss how I can be a valuable addition to your household.

Experience

I developed an interest in teaching when I accidentally joined a school organization that teaches English as Second
Language to the international students of the university. It was an accident because I initially applied to attend a Korean language class, not knowing that the form I’ve filled out was for the application as English tutors. I just found out about it when I was already in the interview process. I passed and just decided to go with it. Teaching and interacting with different nationalities, learning Korean culture and language, proved to be something of a new discovery for me. I found that the opportunities it offered me had a positive and constructive impact on other people's lives that gave me a deep sense of personal fulfillment.

I have also experienced working in a non-teaching job that has equipped me with a wide range of professional skills that are relevant for a career in education. For instance, working as a client advisor of a luxurious company helped me to acquire skills such as developing communication techniques and providing outstanding customer service and engaging with clients and also coordinating work with colleagues. I have recently worked as an assistant to one of my university Professors, who is also my thesis advisor. I assist in preparing, administering and assessing the educational needs or progress of the students. I also organize visual aids and other reference materials for lectures.

I participated in an internship program called the Taiwan Education Experience Program at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (TEEP@STUST). As part of the program, I worked as an English teacher for students in Grades 1 to 6 at DongYang Elementary School in Tainan, Taiwan. Throughout the three-month duration of the program, I stayed with a local family who treated me like one of their own. They were incredibly kind and organized trips for us to explore different places in Taiwan. My role included helping the kids practice their English through conversations and assisting them with their homework. We stayed in touch even after the program ended, and they even visited me in the Philippines last year.
