Letter to the family

My name is Emma and I live in Sydney, Australia. I am a student studying a double degree in Law-Arts at the University of Sydney, with a major in Italian and a minor in English. I have studied Italian for 7 years now and visited Italy twice, a country I love. I adore kids and I have had a lot of babysitting experience, particularly with my little cousins. I also tutor English, Maths and History of Religion to children from ages 7-18 and have done so for three years now. I will be on exchange studying at the University of Bologna from February to July 2024. I am looking for a family to live and work for during that time in Bologna or, alternatively, for a couple of months straight after my exchange has ended.

I expect to be able to integrate into my host family's dynamic, helping out, caring for the children and experiencing a new culture and lifestyle. I expect a reciprocal relationship of trust, warmth and generosity between the host family and I. I hope this experience will bring me to love Italy even more (although I don't know if that's possible!). On that note, there are some more tangible expectations I should include. I would love a bedroom for myself, for some privacy and some pocket money each week. Having the weekend free would be great to rest and visit some nearby attractions. I also expect a family that is open-minded, progressive and gay-friendly.

Experience

I love kids and I have had a lot of babysitting experience, particularly with my little cousins. I am great at engaging them with art, reading and fun, active games that stimulate the imagination. I have studied Italian for seven years now, giving me a good knowledge of the language and second language aquisition. These skills will be very useful for teaching a child English.

I have three years of tutoring experience. At school, I graduated fourth in my year, first in standard maths, Drama, Italian and Studies of Religion. I also achieved high marks in English Advanced and English extension I and II. I then studied for two years at the Australian National University in Canberra, maintaining a high distinction average. I have now transferred to the University of Sydney where I am a double degree in law and liberal arts.
