Letter to the family

Dear Future Host Family,

My name is Jessica and I am a 22-year-old born and raised in Sydney, Australia. I am currently in my final year at university, studying a Bachelor of Business and a Bachelor of International Studies. Growing up in a multicultural household with an older sister and a younger brother, I have always valued the importance of family, connection, and caring for others.

I am applying to become an Au Pair because I genuinely enjoy working with children and experiencing life through their eyes. Being an Au Pair allows me to combine my passion for cultural exchange with my nurturing and responsible personality. I’ve always admired how immersive and rewarding the Au Pair experience is—both for the family and for the myself.

You should consider hosting me because I bring a warm, friendly, and reliable presence into the home. I am mature, disciplined, organised, and adaptable, with firsthand experience living abroad, having spent six months studying in China. This experience taught me independence, cross-cultural understanding, and the importance of open-mindedness—qualities that I believe are essential when living with a host family. I can speak fluent English and Chinese, which can be especially helpful in bilingual households or for children learning either language.

While I have not worked as a formal Au Pair before, I have spent years helping care for my younger cousins and have volunteered in various community roles that involved supporting children and families. I am confident in managing routines, helping with homework, preparing meals, and planning fun, active activities to keep children engaged and happy.

In a few words, I would describe myself as kind, calm, responsible, and enthusiastic. I enjoy keeping active—whether that’s going to the gym, hiking in nature, or simply playing outdoors. I also love reading, baking, listening to music, and especially travelling. Exploring new cultures and environments excites me, and I’m always eager to learn from others’ perspectives and ways of life.

After my time as an Au Pair, I plan to pursue a career in international business or human resources, ideally in a role that allows me to work globally and help connect people from different backgrounds. This experience will not only enhance my cultural awareness and language skills but will also help shape me into a more empathetic and well-rounded individual.

Thank you for considering me as your future Au Pair. I’m excited about the possibility of becoming part of your family and creating lasting memories together.

Experience

I had the opportunity to work as an Au Pair in China for six months, caring for the children of a close family friend of my parents. During this time, I was responsible for school pickups, helping with homework, preparing meals, organizing playtime activities, and supporting with bedtime routines. This hands-on experience deepened my understanding of childcare and strengthened my ability to connect with children in a kind, patient, and supportive way.

I’m excited to become an Au Pair abroad again because it combines two of my greatest passions: working with children and experiencing new cultures. Living with a host family offers a unique chance to immerse myself in another way of life while making a meaningful contribution to their household. Having already lived abroad, I know how rewarding and eye-opening cultural exchange can be, and I look forward to continuing that journey—building genuine connections and growing personally and professionally through this experience.
