Letter to the family

Hello, my name is Caroline. I want to become an au pair for the immersive experience in another country while becoming part of a home. I am incredibly organized, manage my time well, I’m hardworking and fun loving.
I value being a part of other cultures and have had so many amazing experiences over the years. I have lived in the US all but one year of my life but have always loved to travel. My family moved to Germany for my 6th grade year to join my stepdad on his sabbatical. While we were there, we traveled all throughout Europe including skiing in the Alps, climbing the Eifel tower, and so much more! When I was 8, I traveled to Guatemala and El Salvador with my mom for her work and attended language school while getting to know the community and enjoying a homestay with a local family. Last summer I had the opportunity to join my family in Costa Rica. I have also traveled extensively in the US and as I write this I am on my way home from my dream trip in Thailand.
I am an expert sister as well as having a great deal of childcare experience. I have one older brother who I adore. While we had our normal brother-sister differences while we were younger, over the years we learned being best friends made us a team. I also have two younger stepbrothers that I’ve grown up with for most of my childhood. Before Covid hit we applied to become a foster family and we were blessed with my amazing sister in June of 2020. Kenli lived with us for 3 years (age 5-8) and became my pride and joy very quickly. I shared a room with her which allowed me to mentor her down paths to organization, kindness, and gratitude. I babysat her every Wednesday after school through bedtime. We would curl her hair, do our nails, read, and sometimes even get her favorite pink cake pops from Starbucks! I love all children but would be particularly interested in younger kids.
There are a few things that set me apart. I am able to juggle multiple responsibilities which have included playing sports, working multiple jobs, and going to school at the same time. I thrive with a full schedule, and I am able to navigate unexpected bumps in the road very well. Especially in work situations, I am able to anticipate what might need to be done and proactively prepare. I especially love to do this when taking care of others. For instance, when I babysit locally, I pack a bag of games, books, or activities that I know will fit the kids I’m spending time with. Growing up in a large family I have found my place. In our family we talk about our feelings, we treat everyone as equals, we say gratitude before meals, and we prioritize each others values. We talk about problems and express our needs. I would love to continue the open communication lifestyle. I enjoy family activities and having fun, but I equally enjoy time on my own. I am quiet and hardworking; easy to live with.
I have applied to my favorite childhood camp for the summer of 2024, which will end early August of next year. I am happy to start immediately after. I turn 18 in February and I will have my recertification in CPR and first aid before I leave for camp in May. If you’re looking for a loving and adaptable addition to your family, I hope you’ll consider me!

Experience

While I have loved to travel all of my life, my year in Germany was truly a memorable experience. My ideal au pair placement will offer the opportunity to become a valuable asset to your family while immersing myself in a new culture as a resident instead of just a visitor. I'm looking forward to working with kids, and I am equally an animal lover and would be more than happy to help with pets as well.
