Letter to the family
Hello. My name is Haley. I'm a 24 year old female from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I've lived here all my life and come from a good, supportive family and live with my parents and younger sister in the suburbs of Halifax.
I'm an avid athlete and have been in all-star cheerleading for 17 years. I've been coaching for the last 10 years, working with children between the ages of 6 to 16. Cheer is my passion and I've learned a great deal about teamwork, leadership, and hard work. Cheer also provided me the opportunity to travel and I've been fortunate to attend competitions in cities such as Niagara Falls, Ontario, Orlando, Florida, Boston, Mass., and will soon be travelling to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
In 2022, I graduated from my local community collage with a diploma in Early Childhood Education. The program I took was a first of its kind in Nova Scotia because it was for students of African Nova Scotian heritage. I was honoured to be part of that experience as it gave me the opportunity to learn with students who I directly related to and our learnings had the additional focus of representing our culture in the Early Childhood Education field. During my studies, I was selected as one of eight students to represent our Province and school in an exchange program to St. Kitts & Nevis. We spent two weeks immersed in their culture and got to visit and volunteer in childcare centres in St. Kitts & Nevis. It was one of the best experiences of my life and someday I'd love to return.
I was hired directly out of school by one of the daycares where I did a work placement and I am still employed there now. I am a Level II ECE and I am one of three teachers working in the toddler room where we are responsible for 18 kids. I love children and am fortunate to not only work with them but be involved in their lives. There is nothing better than walking into the classroom and having a child run to your arms for a morning hug, or some encouragement or just a little extra love.
I want to be an Au Pair & Nany because I want to experience other cultures through what I love doing best, which is caring for children and families. I've created special bonds with some of the daycare families and sometimes babysit or just hang out with the families on weekend. I'm active and enjoy playing with children through outdoor activities as well as creative time. I love family outings and being part of the activities and celebrations.
I think a host family should choose me because I'm a hard worker and I will love caring for their children. While I'm not their parent, I would want to establish a strong bond and fulfill their needs, both physically and emotionally.
I'm qualified for the position of an Au Pair/Nanny because of my education and experience working in the child care industry.
