Letter to the family

1. Hello! My name is Cameron (she/her) (23) and I am a nurse from the US who is on a quest to try and make the world a better place
2. I want to be an Au Pair (for children, the elderly, or the disabled) because I have done work in the past similar to Au Pair work in the US being a nanny for the children of an international girls' summer camp in the US and working at this summer camp for 3 years because I truly love empowering and educating children, especially in a multicultural environment.
3. You should consider hosting me because: I love learning and teaching (I speak English, Spanish, and some American Sign Language) (I also love teaching musical instruments, yoga, art, and reading). I also have worked and lived in a multicultural living environment for 3 summers so I have already had many "uncomfortable" cultural barrier moments happen and am pretty keen on how to manage this with non-violent communication strategies effectively. I also love helping around the house (especially taking dogs on walks or playing with housecats) and want to additionally improve my gardening skills in case you may have a garden (I have installed a community garden at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and would love to help you install one yourself!)
4. I qualify for this position because I am a registered nurse with a lot of experience working with children (Pediatric ICU, Emergency Room, pediatric public health rural clinic, nannying for years, being a lifeguard and swim instructor, coach for Girls on the Run USA, teaching children in various environments, etc...) and my philosophy is that to make the future better, we need to be better to the children of the world. I have also worked and lived extensively with people with disabilities (my brother is developmentally disabled and will require lifelong care) and so I also would love to help you with any of your loved ones with disabilities by providing care that is rooted in intersectionality and disability justice :) disabled people are totally people and deserve equal respect and dignity!!!

Experience

I have not had any official Au Pair experience in another country, but I am so excited and willing to learn! I want to become an Au Pair and Nanny abroad to help gain some global awareness and develop a sense of a more permanent home as I would love to go to Law School or get my PhD in humanitarian civil rights with a focus on protecting and improving the lives of children in the world. I truly just want to make the world a better place than how I found it! When I was working as an emergency department nurse, I got firsthand experience on how dire the need is to have people who are actively trying to make the world a better place. I would specifically love to be an Au Pair in cities with a university nearby that values international students and social justice.
