Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hi There!

We are a family of 4 looking for childcare. Our daughter is 2.5, our son is 5.5. We live in Southern Alberta, Canada. It is a 15 minute drive to the nearest small town which has anything we'd ever need, but not a lot of selection. The nearest large center is a 60 minute drive. Applicants must be experienced drivers and should be okay with living a quieter social life considering our rural location.

Our son is epileptic with a speech delay. He completely understands and comprehends everything, but has difficulty verbalizing things. We do require an applicant who has extra patience to understand how he speaks. We aren't looking for a speech therapist, simply wanting applicants to be aware of his delay. He has difficulty annunciating certain consonants and will sometimes get stuck on one word, kind of like a stutter.

We would require applicants to also do some housekeeping, yardwork and light cooking. We are an outdoors family, the more outside activity the better!

We do have appointments with our kids and try to schedule those as far in advance as possible. For some appointments we need the applicant to come with us, for others we don't. Flexibility that way is appreciated.

Job Description

Must:
- be okay knowing seizures are a potential although unlikely
- be okay with our son's speech delay
- have driving experience
- be okay in a rural setting
- be okay with cooking, house keeping and yard work
- be okay with hot summers and cold winters

While we live in a beautiful setting, I cannot stress that it is rural and may seem fairly isolating if someone isn't used to that. We do have lots of events with family and friends which of course our au pair/nanny is more than welcome to attend! You will be part of the family when you are with us :)

Our kids are very well behaved. They are happiest playing outside, visiting their grandparents & cousins, and having little adventures.

Overall, my husband and I are very easy going. One thing I ask, is not to be on your phone or device when you are tending to the children.
