Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear future Granny Au Pair,

We are a family of 5, who have recently returned to Australia. Both my husband and myself are humanitarian aid workers for more than the last decade, and we have returned home to have time with our family based here and help our eldest daughter to settle in Australia for her final years of school.

As a mother to the family, I've had some time off to help us settle, but hope to return to work in the coming months, and we need help to keep the relatively high standards we have for our house and our kids.

We live in Narrabundah in Canberra which is the inner South of the city. Buses go to the city and people like to ride their bikes around. Our family in Australia is not in Canberra but on the east coast in Sydney and slightly north and South, so having someone to be with us and help us during the week, and perhaps the odd weekend, is important.

Job Description

Our hope is that we will have an Au Pair who will help us manage the house and look after our kids. Working full time, we want someone who can help to keep the house running, with washing and daily cleaning/tidying. We do expect our children to help and clean up after themselves, but being young they need encouragement and support.

We also prefer our kids to be home after school, and someone to look after them upon return from school, providing the care that is needed, or facilitating their engagement in activities or friendships. Also to look after Sophia the days she is not in care. Trips to the park, play dates, taking the children to swimming lessons or other activities, could be on the cards, as we get settled and put a bit of structure back into our life. Otherwise enjoying the lovely home we have, supporting with homework or reading, bathing, preparing basic meals or serving up something that I have already cooked.

We would also hope that as parents a night a week we can get out together without the kids, and perhaps also find time to exercise some mornings or afternoons. That might mean that on some days you help the kids to get ready so we can exercise before work.

We want someone who can get involved and help to keep the family running the way we like. We would like a bit more space and time for ourselves, but are quite engaged with our children and would like an au pair to compliment that, rather than manage the house themselves, or in an alternative way.
