Welcome Letter to the Au Pair
we are very much looking forward for you to come to the lovely city of Hamburg and be part of our family! We are a family of five, my husband and me and our three children: Amalia (10), Antonius (8) and toddler Alexis (18 month).
We are looking for
- a native speaker in English (or truely fluent in English) to teach and encourage our children using the language
- somebody really interested in working and spending time with children (or in the education sector), references appreciated
- a person with a real passion for sports and with a flexible mindset
Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany and has approx. 1.8 million inhabitants. We live in a beautiful and spacious house with a large garden in the middle of the centre of Hamburg. This nice and very green area is called "Harvestehude" with lovely parks, many shops and small cafes and restaurants nearby. Also the large innercity lake, the "Alster", is just around the corner from our home. Hamburg has a big university which is also close by bike or just a few bus stops away, many international companies and a bubbling night life, hence a lot of young an international people live, study and work in Hamburg. It is very easy to get around as public transportation is excellent. Just in front of our home is the next bus stop and only 5 minutes away the next underground station. Hamburg has a large underground train and bus system so you can reach all destinations comfortably. The large train stations offer high-speed train connections, for example, Berlin is just 1,5 hours away. As many popular sights are close to our home we mostly use our e-cargo bike.
Both my husband and I are fluent in English and would like our two kids to pick up more of the language. They just started English lessons in school. As there are many Au Pairs in Hamburg and even around the corner of our home it's easy to make friends here.
Our kids are used to be with different kind of nannies since they were born and always had a close relationship with them. So we hope to find a new lovely Au Pair that's passionate on being with and taking care of kids as the other girls!

Job Description
Your chores would mainly be:
- Your focus will mainly be taking care of and playing with Alexis in the afternoons and on the weekends.
- Helping at dinner and getting them ready for bed, story reading etc.
- putting all the big and small stuff lying around back in place/ back to order your focus being on the children stuff and children rooms
- babysitting
- as mentioned Amalia and Antonius are quite busy with their own activities and already independent. However, if Amalia and Antonius are at home in the afternoon you could play games with them, do crafts, draw pictures, read books or teach them English!
- Your day of will normally be a weekday.
- you can take your language course directly in the morning hours from 9.00 am onwards
- Obviously, all these chores mentioned never occur at once and we generally try to organise them an a weekly basis beforehand baring some flexibility in mind.
Overall we invite you to be part of the family and have fun being with us, to get to know Hamburg, Germany and Europe, to pick up some of the language, to find friends and to help us getting our daily live a bit better organised and improve all our English skills. We are aware of the fact that being an Au Pair is also very much about learning a new culture. You'd have enough time to go out, meet people, travel and make new experiences although these things should not be the main motivation coming to Hamburg.
From our perspective we are looking for the following character traits of our new Au Pair:
An outgoing, cheerful and generally interested person who seriously likes taking care of children and teaching them things you have learned and experienced in your life so far. Idearly somebody who plans to study in the education sector or who has experience in working with children already.
Somebody who is active, energetic, sporty and structured and who is able to motivate children to join in. A reliable and caring person who our children and we as parents can trust in.
We pay a monthly "fee" of EUR 300,-, a travel pass for you, health insurance and EUR 50,- for a language course which we highly recommend. There is a bike for you and we do have a car that can be used.

Accommodation
The house has a basement in which your own studio is located. We just recently renovated it and it's a bright room with a big window facing the gardenside of the house. You have your own shower and a small kitchen facility and a fridge you can use as well as a separte lavatory. Surely, you can use our WiFi.
