Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello future au pair!
We (Vanessa, Chris and little Jim) are a young family in our early 30s from the state of Hesse in Germany. Our son is two and a half year old and already goes to kindergarten.

Traveling is our great passion. We see language and cultural understanding as a key and door opener. Our son is showing more and more interest in picking up English words and understanding English after our recent trips. We are convinced that there is no better opportunity to learn a language at a perfect level than at a young age. This is the main reason why we are looking for an aupair from the UK, USA or Australia.

We also have a special connection to Thailand as Chris grew up there and still has family there. We are therefore keen to take an au pair from Thailand as well if he or she speaks English at native speaker level.

We also believe that the opportunity to get to know a new culture and make new friends in a foreign country is extremely important for a young person. Of course, we are looking for an au pair to support us, but it is just as important to us that you take part in our lives as part of our family.

You are the right person for us if you ...
... laugh a lot and can be childish.
... are creative
... are inquisitive and curious.
... like to go out, are active and prefer country life to city life.
... like to travel and want to explore German culture
... have a good heart and can build a great connection with Jim!

We look forward to hearing from you =)

Important information: We are an atheist household. The au pair's religion doesn't matter to us as long as he or she accepts that we are raising our son completely without religion. We are also a liberal, open-minded and forward-looking family. Any applicants with extremist attitudes or American applicants who support “President” Trump, please refrain from contacting us. It is also very important to us that you are a strict non-smoker.

Job Description

Vanessa and Chris work everyday but usually one of us is working from home while the other is in the office. You might help us get Jim ready for kindergarten in the morning and sometimes also take him there (in good weather by bike - the kindergarten is about 15 minutes away).
In the morning, while Jim is at kindergarten, it would be great if you could spend about an hour doing light housework (tidying up toys, clearing the breakfast table, vacuuming, watering plants, vacuuming ...).

After lunchtime about 1:30 pm you would pick Jim up from kindergarten, then you would play with Jim until about 3-4 o'clock (sometimes he takes a nap) until Vanessa or Chris has finished work.

We love to cook and always cook fresh - mostly Mediterranean or Asian food. We eat a 99% vegetarian diet. We would be happy if you are open to new dishes and if we can take turns cooking.

You could also look after Jim one evening a week. If Jim or one of us gets sick, you would take on a larger part of the childcare.

It is very important to us that you speak to Jim Englisch. Vanessa and Chris speak very good English. German language skills at A1 level are a prerequisite for the visa in Germany! You should already have a German A1-certificate.

In addition to room and board, we will pay you a monthly allowance of 280 euros, and if you would like to take part in a German course, we will subsidize this with 70 euros. We will also cover your health insurance in Germany. We will also provide you with your own bicycle. Your weekly working hours are expected to be 20-30 hours. In addition, you would have 4-6 weeks of vacation per year (depending on when and how long we travel ourselves).

Accommodation

We live in a house with a garden - we on the ground floor and the grandparents on the upper floor. Our house is in a small village right on the outskirts, with wide meadows behind it. Your room will be on the ground floor with direct access to the garden. It is about 20 square meters in size and is beautifully decorated. It has a single bed and a small sofa as well as a desk. If needed, we can get you a screen/TV. There is a simple toilet with a sink right next to the room. The shower is in our bathroom one floor above. There are no other rooms on the ground floor besides your room and the small room with toilet, so it would be your area - even with its own entrance in the hallway (although we also use this as access to the garden, especially in summer).

We are living in the north of the province Hesse - pretty in the middle of Germany (which is perfect for travelling). Our region is famous for the Brothers Grimm - fairy tale authors from the 19th century who lived here. You certainly know the fairy tale Snow White or Cinderella. The region of North Hesse inspired them to write their fairy tales. We live close to nature, yet there are many historic villages here and the metropolis of Frankfurt with its skyline and international airport is only 90 minutes away.

There is a bus stop right in front of the house. In less than 5 minutes you are at the train station and from there you can reach the cities of Kassel (45 minutes), the beautiful historic old town of Marburg (30 minutes) and the metropolis of Frankfurt (90 minutes). There are also shops, restaurants and cafés in our village. If you love nature and fresh air, culture and historic places, you will come to the right place. But most of our friends live in the metropolitan area of Frankfurt, so, if you need some big city feeling, you are always free to join us for a weekend trip.
