Although all non-EU applicants need a visa for Luxembourg, there are several documents that Au Pairs and Host Families need to take care of before the visa. You can find all the necessary steps in detail in our article about the
Au Pair requirements in Luxembourg. Let’s look into them briefly:
1
Permission from the Luxembourg Ministry of Education
Remember that only Au Pairs who received a permit from the ministry can become participants of the program. The participant has to submit the application with all required documents. After receiving the confirmation, the Host Family needs to submit it to the National Youth Service.
2
Get a temporary stay in Luxembourg
The Au Pair needs to apply for a temporary stay at the Department of Immigration. They will need a copy of the participant’s passport, birth certificate and the Au Pair’s approval from the Ministry.
Visa for Luxembourg
The type of visa will depend on the length of the stay. If the Au Pair and the Host Family agreed on a stay for less than three months, the participant needs to apply for a C-type visa. If the Au Pair wants to stay longer than three months, they will require a D-type visa.
Beyond the specific documents mentioned above, don’t forget to
sign the contract as it confirms the Au Pair’s goal of visiting Luxembourg.
We strongly recommend Au Pairs to get in touch with the embassy or consulate of Luxembourg in their home country to find out more about the exact requirements for the visa application.
What else?
-
The Au Pair can stay for a maximum of 12 months in Luxembourg.
-
After their arrival in Luxembourg the Au Pair has to present the arrival declaration within the first 3 days, register with their Host Family, undergo a medical examination and apply for a residence permit.
