Working Holiday - visa application

Au Pairs in New Zealand must meet the requirements for the Working Holiday visa. This type of visa sometimes has a limited number of approved applications depending on the nationality. It is also important to mention that holidays must be the main goal of this visa, with work being a secondary intention. Documents to bring to apply for the Working Holiday visa are:

1
Passport
Au Pairs need a valid passport for their complete stay.

2
Au Pair contract
The migration authorities will ask for the Au Pair agreement. Make sure that the expectations, payment and Au Pair responsibilities are clearly stated.

3
Visa application
Candidates for the Working Holiday visa must apply online at the immigration website of New Zealand. To do so, they will need to create an account and fill out a form. According to the website, all candidates will need to pay an application fee online. In some cases, they will also need to provide evidence (funds, medical insurance, etc.), in that case they will be contacted by email.

Applicants will get an email informing them about the visa application status. Most applications are processed within 25 days.

4
Return plane ticket
You must have a return ticket or enough savings to buy one. Authorities might ask to see evidence of this.

5
Savings
Au Pairs and other candidates for the Working Holiday visa must have at least NZ $4,200 in their account. Migration officers might ask for proof during the arrival in New Zealand.

AuPair.com recommends contacting the embassy of New Zealand or consulate in the Au Pair’s home country and get rid of any doubts before the application.

What else?

  • Applicants must enter New Zealand within 12 months of the date the visa is granted.
  • The visa allows to study or do training if it is for no more than 6 months of the stay.
