Hi! My name is Kourtney, and I am currently a Psychology major, Art minor, at the University of Rhode Island. I have a passion for and experience working with children and adolescents. My first job working with children was for NorthEast Family services, which I worked at for a year, where I worked directly in the home of a young girl who was eight years old with developmental disabilities. My responsibilities for this job included helping her with her daily activities, doing school work with her, and integrating goals with help from her clinician to improve her academics and social skills. After this job, I was hired at Harmony Hill School, where I still work, and I have been here for about one year and four months now. This is a residential, behavioral facility for boys ages 8-18. I am an assistant counselor here, and have found it a very fulfilling, although challenging, role working with these boys and helping them through their daily activities, behavioral challenges, and goals. With graduating college this semester, I am looking to travel while working for the year while also working with youth. After this, I plan on applying to graduate schools so I can pursue a Masters degree in school psychology. I believe that being an Au Pair/ Nanny suites me based of the array of experience I have working with many different youth from different backgrounds. Additionally, I also have experience as a housekeeper, as I worked in this position in Grand Canyon National Park for a seasonal job. Although a humble job, I learned many skills for cleaning and tidiness that I believe will make me a preferred candidate working as an Au Pair or Nanny. Between these jobs while also being a student and maintaining hobbies, I believe that I am a candidate who is very capable of managing high energy situations while also being able to engage kids and keep them entertained. I have many different interests (discussed in the interests/ hobbies section), which I have found translates well while working with youth, since I have experience in several different hobbies!
