Letter to the family

Hello! My name is Charlotte, and I am in my third year at the University of Pennsylvania. I'm studying Physics and Electrical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania in the US! I'll be using this to do Asset Management at the bank Goldman Sachs in the summer of 2026 and I'm very excited for that! Before I graduate, I really want the opportunity to immerse myself in another country's culture and in a family of different cultural and traditional backgrounds. I grew up as the oldest member of my family in the USA, and I've always loved taking care of my younger cousins, so naturally, being an au pair sds out as a job I would love to partake in!

I am a pretty outgoing person and definitely want to make the most out of an au pair experience. I've lived away from home for two years, but my parents are only an hour drive away and I know this will be super different than what I'm used to. I'm looking to bond with my host family as much as you'll let me and fully immerse myself in the country itself. I really want to take this semester to continue learning culturally, instead of just academically!

I have babysat my cousins ever since I was in middle school, and in high school, I babysat my neighbors' two children (5 and 7) after they got home from school. I did this every week for about 4 months. I also have worked as a teaching assist at my Sunday School for 2 years, tutored English to students in China for 3 years during the pandemic and the aftermath, and worked with elementary schoolers to learn about healthy eating through a program at my University!

Experience

I want to be an au pair firstly because I know that I love working with and taking care of people. I am on track to graduate a semester early from college, so before I go out into the workforce, I'd love the opportunity to interact with children or the elderly while learning about the culture of other countries. Furthermore, I would love to be welcomed into another family's home and connect with you guys personally during my stay. I have never studied abroad before, but I want to learn a lot more about the norms, traditions, and routines you guys have in your households. It'll be a great learning experience that I'm sure I'll take with me forever.
