Grace (20 / Ms. ), American, Student living in USA looking for Au Pair & Home share with elderly job in Australia, France, Italy, Spain & Costa Rica for 3-4 Months

Hello! My name is Grace and I am so excited to get to know the family that I'll be helping out this summer! I am from rural Vermont (northeastern USA) and am really excited to experience another culture, explore a new area, and form connections with new people across the world. :)

I currently work as a nanny for a 10-month-old and a personal care aide for a preteen with medical needs. I have two younger sisters and four younger cousins and have done a lot of babysitting throughout my life--I absolutely love working with kids but would be happy working with any age group. I am a nursing student going into my senior/final year, and hoping to become a labor & delivery travel nurse. I have encountered people from all age categories and all walks of life in my clinical. I also volunteer as an emergency responder in my hometown and have gotten to help so many awesome people that way! I absolutely love talking to people, learning about how other people live and what they're passionate about, and I love new experiences in general. My favorite part of working with kids is learning their sense of humor and being able to make them laugh!

If I worked with your family, I would love to spend as much time outside as possible. I am very adventurous and I'm an avid backpacker. My longest trip was 800 continuous miles on the Appalachian Trail--my dream is to backpack all 2650 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail! I spent all of last summer living outdoors in southern Vermont with no cell service, doing trail maintenance and conservation work, and helping with farm work in exchange for housing on off days. I enjoy mountain biking, hiking, gardening, caving, and skiing in my free time, and living in a new rural area where I could explore the outdoors either solo or with the family I'm placed with would be a dream come true! I am also very experienced in outdoor safety considerations. I am an EMT/emergency responder, have worked in ski patrol, and have personal experience in dealing with emergent outdoor situations---most recently I was stuck in the backcountry alone during catastrophic flooding with no communication device and was able to safely navigate that.

When I'm not outside, I enjoy baking, crochet, and fostering animals---my roommates and I rescue and foster animals from shelters in the southern US with high euthanasia rates and care for and train them until they are adopted. So I would be very open to living with a family that has pets!
