Letter to the family

Dear Future Host,
My name is Anco, I am 22 years old, and I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I’m applying to be a caregiver for an elderly person and to live in a home-share arrangement, not just because I want to help, but because I genuinely enjoy being around older people. I’ve always believed that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and cared for—especially in their later years.
Aging can sometimes come with loneliness, and I want to be someone who brings warmth, patience, and company into someone’s life. I love hearing life stories, sharing meals, helping with daily tasks, and simply being there when someone needs support or a chat over a cup of coffee (or wine). To me, caregiving isn’t just about duties—it’s about showing up for someone, consistently and kindly.
You might be wondering why you should open your home to me. I understand that letting someone into your space is a big decision, and I don’t take that lightly. I have been living on my own since I was 18 years old, so I know the responsibilities when it comes to running a household. I’m responsible, respectful, and easy to live with. I know how to keep a space clean and calm, and I believe in clear, honest communication. I would treat your home—and most importantly, the person I’d be caring for—with the same respect I’d show my own family.I’m also naturally calm and patient, and I’m not afraid of hard work or long days.
I truly hope you’ll consider me for this role. I’m excited at the thought of being a helpful presence in someone’s life—and of learning from them along the way.
Thank you
Anco

Experience

After high school, I applied for a nursing college , but due to financial circumstances I could not pursue it.

During the four years my grandmother lived with us, I had the chance to learn what it truly means to care for someone with love, patience, and dignity. Since then, she has been moved to a Care Home because of her condition worsening. While she is capable and professional care now, it was hard to accept that she is no longer the strong person she once was.

Seeing how much it means to my grandmother to have someone by her side inspired me deeply, and I want to be able to give that same joy and comfort to my future Host. I would love the opportunity to be a caregiver and live with an elderly person abroad because I believe I can make a real difference in someone’s day-to-day life. I enjoy learning from older people, and I appreciate the wisdom and perspective they bring. Living abroad in a home-share setup would also allow me to experience a new culture in a meaningful and respectful way—not as a tourist, but as a helping hand in someone’s home.
