Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

We are looking forward to welcoming you into our family to help us with our three children and also for you to experience life in the British countryside.

We live in a spacious country house with a large garden in a village called Framfield, which is about 1.5hrs from London by train. The nearest towns are Brighton (30 mins), Lewes (15 mins), Tunbridge Wells (20 mins). It is essential that you are able to drive as the house is in a very rural location. There are really good language courses in Lewes and Brighton.

For the last 12 months we have been privileged to have Sophia living with us. She was our first au pair and the children absolutely adore her. The au pair model has really worked for our family's needs, given my husband and I both work full time.

Since we have had an au pair, we have found the right balance between you helping us with the children (at home and on holiday) and having your own freedom to enjoy and explore the UK and Europe. The relationship is one of family rather than employer/employee, which I hope works for both you and us.

Job Description

Here is the summary of the hours and responsibilities. We ask you to remain flexible, for example if one of the children is sick and requires care during the day. Equally, if you want to take time off to travel for for particular events, then we can cover childcare, with notice.

Monday to Thursday: 7.30am to 9.15am / 3.15pm to 8.00pm
- Get kids up and ready for school (breakfast, dressed, brush teeth)
- Make packed lunch for Charlotte only
- Walk the boys round to their school (5 mins walk)
- Clear away kitchen after breakfast

FREE TIME DURING THE DAY

- Pick boys up from school (3.15pm) or later if they have after-school activities
- Evening routine: cook dinner for children, help with homework, bath and bedtime

Friday: 7.30am to 9.15am
- Get kids up and ready for school (breakfast, dressed, brush teeth)
- Make packed lunch for Charlotte only
- Walk the boys round to their school (5 mins walk)

FREE TIME FROM 9.15am ON FRIDAY UNTIL MONDAY MORNING

We will provide all food and drink for you. We are not here during the day, so you should make your own breakfast and lunch, but we will normally eat dinner together.

We will occasionally ask you to babysit, with notice, on evenings or weekends. We also invite you to join us on family holidays, where your role will be a mixture of work and play. We will cover all expenses on holiday.

My parents live next door and also help a lot with the children. For example, my father drives Charlotte to and from nursery everyday and my parents will often babysit on the weekends.

We also have a housekeeper, so whilst you may help keep the children's areas tidy and clean, you will not be expected to clean the house or to do laundry etc.

We have indicated £700 pocket money per month, but this is subject to negotiation depending on hours etc.
