Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

LOOKING FOR: Au pair who already has received or applied for their IEC/working holiday visa to start mid-/late-June 2024 until June/July 2025 or later.

Hi! We are a family of 4 in beautiful Vancouver, BC Canada looking for a kind and trustworthy au pair to join our home mid-/late-June 2024 until June/July 2025 or later. We are a busy professional married couple with 2 young kids: our older daughter is 5 years old and will start 1st grade in September 2024, while our younger daughter is 2 years old and will be in full-time daycare.

We are looking for an au pair to primarily (1) drop off (830-930am Monday-Friday), pick up, and care for our 5-year-old daughter after school (3-6pm Monday-Friday), and (2) help with household chores like cleaning dishes and kitchen after dinner, doing laundry, and tidying the kids' toys. We estimate 30 hours per week.

We hope to cultivate a warm, friendly, and trusting relationship with our future au pair as we have in the past, and that we will genuinely enjoy our time together :)

We are looking for someone who already has their working holiday/IEC visa or is already in the process of applying. Thank you for considering our family and we look forward to hearing from you!

Job Description

Our au pair will care for the older child on weekdays until we are done work/school, and will help with household chores.

Au pair expectations/tasks:
1. Drop off (8:30-9:30am) and pick up and care for our 5-year-old daughter after school (3-6pm Monday-Friday)
2. Help with household chores (cleaning dishes/kitchen after dinner, doing laundry, and tidying the kids' toys, etc.). Most of this work will be done in the evening, but some tasks like laundry can be done at a time convenient to our au pair.
3. Occasional babysitting so parents can run errands or spend time together. Sometimes this will be while kids are awake, and sometimes while kids are already in bed for the night (roughly once every 1-2 weeks, on weekday evenings or on weekends, with as much notice as possible)
4. Occasional care for one or both kids if they cannot attend school/daycare due to being sick (fairly infrequent, roughly once every 1-2 months. This may be on short notice if kids wake up sick) or has time off from school/daycare that the parents don't get (Teacher's professional development days, etc.)
5. Occasional additional help when one parent is less available (travels for work etc.)

Schedule and hours per week:
Estimated 30 hours per week, primarily on weekdays. More hours may be available upon request and discussion. Sundays and Saturdays will be rest days, unless you choose to help with household work during weekends or if we mutually schedule babysitting/errands.

Pay:
We will be following Canadian rules for pay: $16.65 per hour, minus room and board ($325 per month), minus typical government deductions like taxes.

---------------------

The host dad works full-time (weekdays 8-9am to 5-5:30pm). He sometimes works from home, and occasionally travels for work.

The host mom's work schedule varies each month. She generally works weekdays 8am - 6pm, and in some months will have 24 hours shifts every 4 days.

Our older daughter will attend school full time (weekdays 9am-3pm). She will be dropped off by the Au Pair via bike or bus, and at 3pm will be picked up and cared for by our Au Pair until 6pm. There may occasionally be after-school classes/activities for the au pair to bring the older child to.

Our younger daughter will attend full-time daycare; the parents will typically drop off and pick up from daycare.

We have dinner together, and then hang out as a family before the kids go to bed. Our au pair will help with cleaning and tidying in the evening. One or both parents often work/study once the kids are in bed.

Accommodation

We live in beautiful Vancouver, BC Canada which is known as one of the best cities to live thanks to its scenic beauty, outdoor activities (mountains and beaches!), modern city skyline & amenities, cultural diversity (including lots of yummy food!), safety, and comfortable climate.

We live in a fairly new detached house that is modern and clean. We are fortunate to have lots of sunlight! Our house is in a safe neighbourhood, has easy access to downtown Vancouver (one half-hour bus ride), and is walking distance to parks, grocery stores, restaurants, and bakeries. We have WiFi.

Our au pair will have a bedroom on the main floor (separate from the rest of the bedrooms which are upstairs, so at night there will be lots of privacy), and will use the main floor bathroom. The bedroom has plenty of closet space, and like the rest of the main floor it will have in-floor heating, air-conditioning, and high (10 ft) ceilings.
