Letter to the family

Dear Host Family,

I'm a second generation migrant from Niger born and raised in Ghana, West Africa.
Growing up from an underserved community in Accra has fueled my passion for social work and supporting children with and without disabilities in marginalized communities through my professional career.

I spend most of my time contributing to society and on on days that I am free, I either spend time with family, go swimming at the pool or just enjoy time watching movies or listening to true crime podcasts lol and also cooking some of my fav dishes - Ghana Jollof and the likes.

As a young muslim woman, I have learned about religious tolerance from a young age and respecting people's believes and opinions hence I treat every one with the same respect as I expect to have in return.

I am currently looking to explore beyond my comfort zone which is why I am looking forward to being a part of your wonderful family.

Experience

Why am I looking to rather explore as an au-pair you may ask.

You see, my passion for social work did not only begin because of the community I was raised in but my family. I come from an extended family system and a polygamous home as well. My day may his soul rest well had 3 wives - I tell you : )
My dad was mostly away and spent much time with his other family so we had to move in with my grams and aunties who took turns in taking care of my 3 sisters and I when my mum goes out so I was nurtured to give support to the younger ones who came after me.

In my profile, you will see a baby, her name is Rauda.
Story time: My mum's little sister moved to Niger to live with her husband and during the birth of her 5 and final baby, she was diagnosed with a kidney disease.
My mum had to go pick her form Niger back to Ghana to receive better treatment.
They came to Ghana when the baby (Rauda) was as little as 2 weeks old.

While my mother spent days and nights with my auntie who was hospitalized at the Kolebu Teaching Hospital, I spent the entire period taking care of Rauda.
With supports from the other family members, Rauda was solely fed with baby formula and I will ensure she gets the best of bath from grams while I dress her, feed her, back her until she sleeps and repeat the whole process over again until when she was almost a year old and her mum got better.

Rauda is a big girlie now and although she is my baby cousin, my grams, mum and her mum refer to her as my daughter. Rau baby as I call her and I still maintain the closest relationship and I so much love her.

Then there is Shamsia who I call Sia,
Sia lost her mum at the age of 2 and my uncle - her dad had to bring her to us while he cares for her 2 older siblings.
For over 4 years, I spent most of my time taking care of Sia.
I had the opportunity to walk her to day care every single day until she completed day care and moved to another class, she loved makeup so I will spend minutes making her up during special occasions and celebrations and over all built a strong bond.

Aside that, any time there is a new baby in the fam, Im the very few people that gets the rare opportunity to take care of them while the mother rests or supports the mother during hospital visits.

I do not want to further bore you lol but I so much love to care for little ones and that has adversely impacted my passion for social work and advocacy.

So, this is why I specifically choose this pathway, to not only explore different cultures and learn from great people but to also show love and care for the little ones in your family.

I am ever ready for calls for verifications incase you may want to have me as part of your amazing family.
