Letter to the family

Greetings! My name is Vanessa, and I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to be an au pair. I am 24 years old and come from the Philippines. I have a bachelor's degree and majored in interior design; however, my love for children was fostered more when I was in senior high school, where I took humanities and social sciences. During that time, my class visited an orphanage during Christmas, which was very fulfilling and rewarding as we got to spend quality time with the kids, and watching them smile brought joy to my heart.

I am the youngest in my family, but I grew up spending a lot of time with my extended family and used to look after my younger relatives. I spent most of my university break with them, engaging in drawing, playing, and cooking. I helped them with their home work, attended their graduation at the kindergarten, and was the best big sister they needed. My capacity to interact with children and create a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere for them has improved as a result of this. Moreover, I speak English fluently, and I believe that efficient communication is essential, and having good language abilities will help to create a welcoming environment. That is why I am also looking forward to learning your language to better communicate with the kids. Additionally, I'm excited to make a good difference in the lives of your family's children. Last but not least, I am thrilled about the possibility of exchanging cultures and customs with you as the host family, and rest assured, the well-being of your children is my top priority.

Experience

I have experience babysitting my younger relatives, ages 3–10. In particular, I looked after my 8-year-old cousin (F), who's in primary school, while my 6-year-old cousin (M) attends a special needs school. My duties looking after them include making their breakfast and helping prepare them for school. I assisted in bathing my 6-year-old cousin and developing his personal hygiene, such as brushing his teeth and teaching him how to use the potty. I pick up the youngest one from his school before noon and let him take a nap after lunch. If he isn't tired, we work on his speech improvement by singing nursery rhymes together or engaging him in coloring and drawing activities. On the other hand, I mostly spent my time doing crafts with the oldest one for her homework and improving her English skills through word games. Other responsibilities include cleaning, doing their laundry, tidying up their room, and washing the dishes during the morning since they are in school. Other than them, I also have brief experience looking after my 3-year-old nephew during the summer. I used to prepare his formula feed, change his diapers, and take him for his daily walk.

It improved my patience and ability to socialize and interact appropriately with kids, assess what their needs are, and ensure that those are addressed because looking after the kids can be tiring, and taking care of a kid with special needs requires great effort and understanding. I'm confident I can seamlessly integrate into your family and provide your children with an interesting, fun, and safe environment.
