Letter to the family

Dear host family,

My name is Abril, I am 18 years old and I live in Germany with my family. My mother's name is Esbeidy and she works as a dentist, and my father's name is Miguel and he works as a psychotherapist at Papillon. I have a younger brother named Evans. She/He is 15 years old. We are a very close, sociable and communicative family and I love it. My mother has 3 sisters and 4 brothers, and my father has 2 brothers, so I have many uncles, aunts, and little cousins. I love children and I am the eldest so I have always been taking care of my brother when my parents were at work and also my little cousins in the summer, preparing food for them, helping them with their summer homework, playing and doing crafts together. or go to the pool. I have always been surrounded by children!

When I finished high school, I decided to study languages in Mexico, the capital of my country. Living away from home has taught me to value many things, to be much more responsible than I was before I left, and to mature as a person. I think it was a very good opportunity to learn more about myself and it was for me, therefore I recommend it to my younger brother. I have always been very active and hardworking, so I tried to help at home combining my studies with different courses while living in Spain, returning to Mexico in the summer to take care of children. I love working with children because they know how to get the best out of me and I try to teach them to do their best. It is a very rewarding job.

In my first year of studies I met a girl who was my roommate in the student residence and now she is one of my best friends. She is from Italy but she lived in Germany for a lot of her life, and during the year we lived together, she taught me many things about the lifestyle that further increased my desire to know more about the country and culture of she. My family and friends say that I am a very motherly, responsible and affectionate person, plus I love children, so this year I decided to fulfill my dream of being an au pair in Europe. My parents support my decision and are very happy for me. I am delighted to have the opportunity to improve my German, English, Italian and learn new languages to get to know your lifestyle, your customs and your country, which I greatly admire. And what better way than doing what I love! I love spending time with children and learning everything they can teach me every day. They learn a lot from us, but we learn more from them than we think. For me it is wonderful to see them grow and learn, little by little, to be more independent.

I have experience in caring for children from 2 months to 15 years old, girls and boys too. In 2021 I took care of 3 babies, 2,6 and 8 months old, and 4, from 1 to 14 years old. The experience was great. He would wake up the children, have breakfast together, help them get dressed, go to the pool or play basketball because they liked it.
Then I took over Lisa, who loved watching her make clay figures and then trying to make them herself. Lisa, she was a very responsible girl so she would help her with her summer homework and when she finished we would go to the pool. Sometimes I would dress up with her and we would play makeup or make cookies, because what she liked the most was surprising her mother with chocolate cookies she made herself.

On the other hand, I liked the experience with Franco. He was a baby of 6
months and I had to prepare her bottles, feed her, help her develop the skills that a baby her age begins to learn, such as turning on her side to explore around, entertaining her with toys or helping her sleep.

In addition to childcare experience, I also love reading books and newspapers every day when I have free time, listening to the radio and watching movies, traveling and learning about other cultures and ways of life, meeting new people, cooking healthy recipes, and delicious being salty or sweet, talking and sharing experiences, going out with friends or preparing lunch or dinner with my family or with my friends too. I like to eat healthy, and try new flavors, but with it, I love to make cakes, pizzas, salads and chocolate cookies, brownies, cheesecakes and fruit shakes. I find it very entertaining to teach children to prepare fun desserts, snacks and shakes.

I am very excited about the opportunity to get to know you better and be a member of your family. I hope you had fun reading my letter and getting to know a little more about me and my dream.

I hope to hear from you!

Best wishes,

April
