Letter to the family

Hello! I'm Mary. This year, I'm graduating from the University of Washington with a degree in evolutionary biology. I want to become an Au Pair and Live-in Tutor for several reasons. Firstly, children are my favorite people to spend time with! The memories and relationships I've made with the kids I've babysat and nannied are some of my favorite ever, and I consider them and their parents to be family. Secondly, it's extremely important for me to experience and understand other cultures as much as I can. Immersing myself in another country is something I feel I must do at some point in my life. Thirdly, I can't imagine a greater honor than helping your family thrive! It would mean a lot to me to be able to take some stress away from busy parents and help children develop positively at school and at home.

Experience

My childcare experience comes from nannying kids while their parents are away long-term, babysitting, and being a third parent to my brother, who is much younger. Currently, I have the opportunity to volunteer as a tutor for middle school and high school aged children experiencing homelessness. I've spent the most time with kids who are highly energetic and emotional, which has made me calm and patient as a caretaker. My little brother has emotional and educational special needs, and I've been very grateful to be able to learn from him. My focus with him and other kids that I've spent time with is creating habits for success for school and life in small ways such as making dependable and consistent routines for chores, schoolwork, and extracurriculars. I love to get involved with kids' hobbies, as well as involve them with my own. I also love to cook and clean! My favorite thing to hear from a parent when they get home is that they've never seen their house so clean before and my favorite thing to hear from a kid is that they want me to share the recipe I made with their parents.
