Letter to the family

My name is Lauryn, but my friends and family call me Laura. I am a 23 years old girl and I live in Thika, a small town in Kenya, a beautiful country in Africa.
I am an open-minded, hard-working, easy-going, dedicated, trustworthy, helpful, patient, and responsible person. I love taking care of kids and their health, safety, and happiness are the most important to me.I would describe my strength as an Aupair as the ability to bond really well with kids and also blending in very easily and as a result being able to be their mentor in different aspects of life and also be like their big sister, also the ability to learn from my mistakes. On the other hand, I would describe my weakness as an Aupair is that I have a hard time letting go of something or someone because I get too attached to children especially and hence becomes emotionally hard to detach from themThe reasons why i want to be an au pair because i also want to experience the culture of other countries, it will help me in becoming the better me because it will really test how strong i am as a person because i will be away from my loved ones.Explore more places during time off and meeting new sets of friends. I will be able to learn the more complex in and out's of life and how to handle it . I believe being an au pair will help me being an independent and responsible person. Taking good care of my host family gives me more responsibility. Lending a hand counts even in my own little ways.Throughout this experience i know i can learn a lot from the family and really looking forward to have a harmonious relationship with them. Learning more about life in another perspective which is beyond my comfort zone. And these memories will be treasured forever.

Experience

My childcare experience includes volunteering in a kindergarten. In the morning we would sing, tell stories, or have a school-related activity to help the children ease into the school day. Then we would get into the day's activities like drawing or coloring and they would be taught to pronounce their drawing to help them associate the drawing with the word for faster learning. They would go for lunch and come back for a session of writing where they try to copy what's written on a book followed by saying the written word aloud to create the association. From there, we had some play time where the kids would engage in hands-on activities and creative exploration.

I have also taken care of my sister's baby girl. I have been with the baby since she was born. I help out when my sister goes to work from 9 am and comes back at 5 pm. I'd feed the baby, change her diapers and make sure she is okay. The other experience includes my cousin's nephew who is now 2 years old and has started to play around the house. I help by feeding, cleaning and most times playing with him. Growing up in a large family, I have been able to be a babysitter to my brother's children too.

Being an au pair not only allows me to explore a new country but also helps me make new friends worldwide. Being part of a second family is without a doubt the best part of it! I enjoy learning about new cultures, including everything there is to learn about history, different foods, and recipes :)
