Letter to the family

Dear future host family!

Hello, my name is Zofia. I've recently finished high school and started my University journey this october. However, before finishing the academic path that I'm currently on, I really want to do something different for a little while, to be able to be useful and helpful towards others so that I could find myself and try to understand what exactly I want my life to look like. Those reasons are precisely why I'm writing this letter to you, dear family, and from here on out I'd love to introduce myself a bit more and show you that I'd be worthy of participating in your lives:).
My interest in being an au pair has emerged when I first started volunteering at both the primary as well as th elementary schools in my town - that type of volunteer work consisted of taking care of kids, helping them with their homeworks, entertaining them, etc. Back then, I had realised that I truly enjoyed taking care of others, and that maybe I should think about that while considering my career path in the future. From then on I've participated in more events with kids, such as organising workshops or playdates. Of course apart from doing that during my volunteer hours, I have to mention I'm the eldest cousin of all of my cousins, and the eldest sibling in my family, therefore as you could probably guess I've had my fair share of being a nanny outside of "work" as well ;). To be fair, that could sound as If I were complaining - god forbid, absolutely not! I have learnt very early in life that I like feeling useful and doing things for others is one of the best ways for me to feel in such way. My favorite memory from my volunteer work was when my friends and I got an invitation to arrange activities at a nursing home, and we decided to make a show and perform (in a rather amateur way) Hamlet in front of the elder ladies and gentlemen. I can sincerely say that after we finished the play and I looked at their faces, filled with happiness and interest, I felt important and needed. That's what I want to do in life, Id like to feel that I'm changing somebody's life for the better, or maybe that I'm making it more interesting. I am aware, however, that being a part of someone's life does not only mean being their entertainer, but I have also had a fair share of experience in taking care of somebody 24/7 - my grandpa had unfortunately gotten cancer and my grandma and I have been taking turns in caring for him, that way I had learnt hoe to be precise and cautious while helping another person. Thankfully my grandpa made a full recovery - he's a strong man and I'd like to think we helped him a tiny bit in that ;). That too, have made me feel useful and made me even more sure about wanting to be an au pair so that I could connect with the people I'd be helping more than just by being a nanny or a maid. I would love to answer any and all questions you may have, dear family, so please feel free to contact me whenever you may want. I promise to get back to you as fast as I can. I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
Zofia

Experience

As many other adolescents around the age of 18, I'm not entirely sure what I want to do in the future and what I'd like my life to look like. I do know however, that feeling needed and knowing I'm doing something good for others makes me feel better and helps me become a better person. For those reasons I'm hoping that I would be able to find a nice family whose life I could change for the better by taking the weight of most of the chores and babysitting off of them. I'm aware that those people would come from a different background than me and could have different views or ways of living than me, but personally I believe that's what could enhance the experience - learning by interacting with new cultures is the best way of learning to adapt to new situations and to experience a whole other world which I would love to do.
