Letter to the family

Kære fremtidige host familie,

Jeg hedder Giovanna, a 26-year-old Brazilian woman who is finishing her undergraduate studies in Industrial and Production Engineering, with a big heart and a passion for children and cultural exchange. My story is a bit unique, and it involves a special connection to Denmark and a desire to build a life closer to my boyfriend.

My boyfriend, whom I met in Brazil in 2019 during an academic project on the Sustainable Development Goals (a collaboration between our universities in Brazil and Denmark), lives in Copenhagen. While visiting him last year, I fell in love with the country (we explored more than one town), the absolutely charming city of København, and its vibrant culture. Becoming an au pair would not only allow me to be closer to him, but also provide your family with a dedicated, loving, and culturally curious caregiver for your children.

My medium-term goal is to try to legally move to Denmark applying for a work visa through the positive list (which I’m optimistic, considering engineers are on demand). However, due to some unexpected events, I had my graduation delayed, and the prospect for getting my diploma is August- October this year. Now, the distance is becoming a challenge, but I believe becoming an au pair can be the perfect solution. Not only would it allow me to reunite with my love as soon as possible, but I believe I also possess the qualities that make me an ideal caregiver for your children beyond my strong natural affinity for children:

Beyond my strong natural affinity for children, I am:

Nurturing and Experienced: I come from a large family of 13 people, with cousins I've helped care for, since I’m the youngest of 3 children and the third oldest of 8 grandchildren. I'm comfortable in a lively environment (and used to chaos to be honest haha) and know how to create a safe and positive space for children. My family always had a great amount and variety of pets as well, so for me this is not a problem, I actually enjoy it. Currently we live with 8 dogs and 3 cats. Growing up, me and the members of the family had other pets (along with the dogs): birds, tortoises, hamsters, fishes, guinea pigs, and rabbits.

Language Enthusiast: I'm eager to learn Danish, especially to delve into the works of Søren Kierkegaard. My passion for languages extends to English (advanced, 5 years of study), French (intermediate (B1-B2), 2.5 years of study), and a basic understanding of Spanish (it really depends on the accent and speed, Portuguese share many similarities with Spanish and I’ve studied it for 2 years in High School). I also had 6 months of Latin during High School and sometimes I adventure myself into Japanese, Korean, and now Danish languages.

Cultural Explorer: I'm a language nerd and a complete culture enthusiast. I’m very into Japanese culture since I’m little child (until this age I still watch anime and play Nintendo games, but as Japan is much more than this, I also love its cuisine, music and other cultural expressions). When I was 17 years-old I had the opportunity to spend 1 month in Canada on an exchange program for studying english. I got to know the real Canadian winter, digging deep into its multiculturalism practices and popular sports. Lastly, from Lego and Tivoli to Kierkegaard and Kim Larsen, I admire Danish contributions to the world and am eager to learn more. Denmark, despite its modest size, consistently enriches the world through its diverse contributions. From iconic architecture and design to captivating literature and groundbreaking scientific discoveries, Danish influence permeates various fields. The country leads the way in sustainability, pioneering renewable energy solutions and setting ambitious environmental goals. Its commitment to social welfare and healthcare, exemplified by the discovery of insulin, serves as a model for many nations. Danish cuisine and entrepreneurship further solidify its global impact, while innovative approaches like service design and resilience engineering demonstrate its continued leadership in shaping the future. My interests span philosophy, culinary, science, arts, pop culture, sports and technology, making me a stimulating companion for your children.

Nature Lover: I enjoy spending time outdoors, whether tracking or climbing in national parks or helping my relatives on their coffee farm and my mother on her conservation land. I believe in sustainability and can share these values with your family. I love the water, I’ll jump in rivers and waterfalls at the first chance I get!

Creative and Resourceful: I love cooking, experimenting with flavors, and making mealtimes a joyful experience. I'm a true gourmande as the French say, and for me cooking is a type of love language. I'm also a fan of sports, watching football matches and F1 races, playing tennis, swimming and climbing, and even tried snowboarding and ice skating in Canada!

I'm eager to learn more about your family and discuss how I can contribute to your lives. Please feel free to reach out if you'd like to schedule a call or video chat. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Giovanna.
