Letter to the family

Hello! I'm Becca. I grew up in Ontario, Canada and have lived abroad in Japan for 3 years as of March 2022 as an English teacher. I am a friendly, positive and outgoing person with great interpersonal skills and adaptability. I'm hoping to meet a nice family to become an Au Pair or Live-in tutor for and am happy to answer answer questions when we message or video call. Please find some initial information about me below.

I studied criminology and justice in university and while the program was very enlightening and rewarding, I was not ready to start a career in the field by the time graduation came around. I knew I wanted to travel and experience the world outside of Ontario, Canada before I settled down into any long-term career. It was around this time I discovered the opportunity to teach English abroad in Japan. While here I received my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate online along with ones for teaching young learners and business English to supplement my experience in the classroom.

My experience as an expat both living and working in a country very different from my own has been extraordinary and fulfilling. I have always loved to travel, but being fully immersed in the culture and language, meeting so many amazing people, seeing beautiful landmarks, trying delicious food, learning the history, etc., is a whole other adventure. One of which I will always cherish. It has also sparked a passion in me to see as much of the world as possible and take any opportunity for cultural exchange given to me.

As for my teaching experience, it has a been a well-rounded three years where I have taught a variety of topics in English including conversational, academic, business, crafts and more. I have taught classes of all sizes from 20 students to private one-on-one lessons, as well as all levels from absolute beginners to advanced. I have also taught students of all ages, the range starting as young as 6 months to as old as 85. I have really grown to love working as a teacher and have found I have a natural ability especially when it comes to working with young learners. Some of the lessons I've created at my current job targeted for toddlers and pre-school aged kids and lead workshops for my colleagues on how to work with and teach very young learners.

It is both my enthusiasm for cultural exchange, and love for teaching and working with children that lead me to want to become an Au Pair or Live-in Tutor. I would be happy to answer any questions or expand further on my qualifications if we were to make contact. It's a big deal opening your doors to a stranger so I'm looking forward to meeting with families to see if we are a good match!

Experience

I will be moving back to Canada in the spring of 2022 and look forward to catching up with family and friends then. I plan to work as an educational assistant as well as a child care worker when I return. The hope is to move abroad again in the autumn of 2022. As I've already lived in North America and Asia, but never been to Europe, I feel that is the next destination for me. With so many wonderful countries and cultures to appreciate, I would love to have that opportunity. I have really grown to love working as a teacher and have found I have a natural ability especially when it comes to working with young learners. From toddlers and pre-school aged kids to junior or high school students, I enjoy the high-energy and dynamic skills involved in working with these ages and them to be a good match with my personality and abilities. Thus, I feel being an Au Pair or Live-in Tutor is fitting for both my personal interest and skillset.
