1
List of documents for residence permit from the Au Pair’s side:
  • A passport photo
  • The Au Pair contract, describing the terms of the cooperation with the Host Family
  • Any certificate/clarification proving the Au Pair’s interest in Finnish culture and Finnish or Swedish language
  • Evidence of a clear criminal record
  • A health certificate, proving that the applicant doesn’t have any serious contagious diseases
  • Any reference letters proving the applicant’s experience in childcare
  • An account of the participant’s previous studies and language skills
2
List of documents for residence permit from the Host Family’s side:
  • A statement, explaining where and when the participant will attend the language course and who will cover its costs
  • A statement clarifying which health insurance the family is going to obtain for the Au Pair and what kind of service it will cover
  • The daily schedule of the participant - when a family needs her/his assistance and how the daily routine of the family’s children looks like.
The applicant has to fill out the application in Finnish, Swedish or English with the Host Family’s assistance. An authorised translator needs to translate all the files into one of the languages stated above. The Au Pair can also submit additional free-form file, explaining why she/he intends to become a part of this cultural exchange program in Finland.

How to submit the residence permit application for Finland?

The Au Pair must submit the application to a Finnish mission (embassy or consulate) or a service point of the Finnish Immigration Service even if she/he uses the e-service.

The applicant will have to pay the fee while submitting the file. The fee will not be reimbursed even if the decision is negative.

If the decision is positive, the applicant will receive a residence permit card. The permit will be valid for maximum a year, with no further extension.
