Hosting an Au Pair as a stay-at-home parent

Hosting an Au Pair as a stay-at-home parent
If you’re a stay-at-home parent you know that it’s the hardest job in the world. Full-time literally means 24 hours a day, no lunch breaks, no sick days. Still, some people might not understand why you feel stressed. After all, you “only” take care of your kids, right? Wrong. You’re in charge of cooking, cleaning, playing, doing the laundry, paying bills, grocery shopping and so much more. It’s understandable that you feel like you need help. Here’s why hosting an Au Pair might make your life easier.

Avoiding social isolation

As a stay-at-home mom or dad you will spend most of your time with your kids. And while I’m sure you love them with all your heart, you probably long for some adult conversation from time to time. Hosting an Au Pair will not only give you the chance to talk about something else but the latest Disney princess, but will also allow you to spontaneously meet friends for coffee without having to worry about hiring a babysitter.

Sharing responsibilities

We both know you’re the boss at home. But even though I’m sure you’re super organized, sometimes you miss an extra pair of hands. Hosting an Au Pair will give you the chance to pick up your kids from school, while someone’s at home making sure the food you just put in the oven doesn’t burn. Whatever light housework you have to do around the house - be it making the kids’ beds or doing their laundry - your Au Pair will be happy to help.

Less stress

Kids are loud. They scream, they whine, they fight, they cry. And no matter how much you love them, sometimes all you want to do is scream back. Try not to, though. If you feel like you’ve had enough for the day, don’t try to handle your kids on your own. Ask your Au Pair for help instead. When you feel like the situation’s calmed down a bit, you can take a little break after and let the Au Pair take over.

Time for yourself

Treat yourself! Taking time for yourself is very important for your mental health. Whether you want to take a trip to the spa, get your nails done or go to the gym - your Au Pair’s got you covered.

As you can see, hosting an Au Pair as a stay-at-home parent makes things easier in your daily routine. You get to have some time for self-care, which makes you a happier person and a happier parent. So don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Remember: happier parents = happier kids. You’re not just doing this for yourself. Your kids will enjoy having both you and the Au Pair around, too.
