Au Pair in Sweden: salary, working hours, holidays, etc.
The concept of the Au Pair program is to create a lifelong relationship between Au Pair and Host Family. Nonetheless, in most of the countries the Au Pair program has strict rules that should be respected by all participants. In this article we will tell you more about:
Participants in Sweden must attend a Swedish language course. The courses in Sweden are usually funded by the state, therefore they are usually free of charge.
The schedule must allow the participant to attend the language classes, which should take up about 15 hours per week. Participants who need to apply for a work/residence permit will have to include proof of enrollment in the language course with the visa application.
The Au Pair program in Sweden cannot last more than 12 months (usually it is 9 - 12 months)
Participants in Sweden must register with the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) upon arrival and pay income taxes estimated on the value of their pocket money and non-monetary taxable benefits (accommodation and full-board)
Host Families in Sweden are not responsible for paying for the Au Pair’s travel expenses.
Both parties should discuss this and if the Host Family decides to help with the travel expenses, it should be done in monthly installments during the Au Pair’s stay.
