Au Pair in Spain: salary, working hours, holidays, etc.

Are you planning to go to Spain for your Au Pair journey? Read our checklist with all the practical details about the program including the program rules, responsibilities and information regarding:

Working hours

The participant should work 30 hours per week - babysitting is included in these hours!

During bank holidays or if one of the children needs to stay at home because of sickness, the participant might need to work some extra hours in exchange for extra pocket money, if they work more than 30 hours a week.

Pocket money

The salary of an Au Pair in Spain is about 50 € a week if they live in the countryside, and 60 € a week if they live in a city, which makes 200 - 250 € per month.

Time off and holidays

Participants in Spain will have every weekend off. Some families might ask the Au Pair to work on Saturday mornings. The Host Family will provide 1 week of paid vacation for a 6-months stay or 2 weeks of paid vacation for a 12-months stay. Mention all these details in the agreement

Language course

Participants should attend a language course to improve their knowledge of Spanish. The Au Pair’s daily schedule needs to allow them to join the classes.

The participant is responsible to cover the expenses of the course. The Host Family can support the Au Pair with some costs if they are willing to, though it’s not their official responsibility.

What else?

  • The participant is responsible for arranging the insurance for Spain. If the Au Pair gets an additional health, liability and accident insurance they will have to cover the costs.
